i have my own office in the place we live now (2nd bedroom)... its bliss, just close the door and tell her just to bring you food... works for me ;-)

For me it got to the point where I was working so little to keep up with my significant other's demands that I literally was barely able to pay my mortgage for a month. It was ridiculous. Once she realized how poor we were she finally understood how dire it is that I spend all this time downstairs. She actually asks me when I will get my ass downstairs to make more money for us even though we are once again comfortable LOL. It was to the point where talking to a sales rep who happens to be female was me "chatting with internet sluts all day". I still get flack on that end of things though. She periodically scours my MSN and ICQ lists when I'm not around then comes upstairs and asks me who all these girls are talks in regards to them as internet sluts. Man it's aggravating to say the least.

Right now it's a problem with her friend. You see, we have a new baby and my girlfriend's job is looking after the baby for the most part. The government pays her to do so LOL. I am paid to build shit for a fellow sexy webmaster here and a handful of small clients. Now, this friend of hers was on the phone with her one day and my gf was complain about how tired she is. Then came "well, Chris needs to help out more, he's not doing enough, he should be doing 'this' and 'that'" etc etc. My GF tried explaining to her that I work 16 hour days on most days and that I need to do this to pay for everything. She still said "he could help out a lot more, he's at home, he should help more with everything and give you a break during the day" To which my GF said "if he doesn't work, we lose the house" She still proceeded to give her shit about me. Now, I help out as often as I can. I get up with the baby, bathe him, feed him once a day. Do laundry periodically. I am the ONLY one who cleans the washroom, the floors, dusting everything and do 70% of everything else. I keep the fire going. I shovel after every storm. I fix everything that breaks and I am there to support her when she's down. How is that not doing enough when I manage to do this all within a 16 hour work day?

I felt so much disrespect from it that I barred her from our home. There is NO way I am putting up with a man-hater dissing me when I work insane hours to provide a better life for my little one. Yes, she hates men, so much so that when she got pregnant she cut off all communication with the father blamed him pretty much for her predicament and proceeded to slut around after the baby was born and dumped the guys who didn't kiss the ground she walked on. Guess what? She's alone, jobless, living in the slums, has a shitty Cavalier that's falling to pieces and she's so depressed now that we refer to her as Eyore :)
Then there was my GF's sister who suggested to my GF one night "Why doesn't Chris just get a real job?" because my GF was complaining that she was low on cash. Man, we both got really fucking pissed. Meanwhile she had a career in corrections that she lost because she slept with an inmate, she then got thrown in jail for robbing her uncle's safe then her now boyfriend which she just had a baby with was too lazy to find a job.
Real job? WTF.

It's obvious he loves you and cares deeply about your future. Just remember that each time he gives you shit. Keep doing your thing. he'll come around once you start spending the money on yourself and have shit to show for it.

I will say that a relationship can flourish when both partners are able to understand the needs of each other. You don't have to totally understand them 100%, but if you respect them and try to compromise it makes things a lot better. This goes for both parties - the one trying to work at home and the one who loves you so much they can't but help themselves from wanting to spend more time with you when you are so close to them.

eldominik 03-10-2005 05:30 PM

Guys are you all pussies or what? Really how you can allow this to happen, if someone would try to say me what should I do that would be the end of our relationship.

LadyMischief 03-10-2005 05:55 PM

I find it much easier to work at my husband's side than to bug him not to work :)

LOL I understand this My father tells people Im unemployed and dont work. He then asked me could he borrow $12,000 until one of his long term investments came due I said to him how can I lend you 12K if I dont work he told me If I had a real job I would have even more money I then explianed to him That I make more 4X more they he did even when he was a manager still didnt make any diference he still belives I dont have a real job. Yeah I lent him the 12k and he paid me back but I just thought it was funny as hell.

I Guess I should starta new work from home service you pay me $2000 a month and I will hire you for $1000 a month then you can all go say you work for someone and have a real job, but you are still a new age elecommuter :) And when your wife nags you tell her I am riding your ass, I will hire some cheap offshore people to be your icq boss and rag you from time to time for being a slacker.. and I will alos have them post to the boards how great you are at wok and that I am sorry for riding you so hard.

This will fix 99% of your problems, and will be a nice new rev stream for me :)

Recently I got back into this full time. I had to sit the wife down and let her know some things.

1. I am at my desk from ____ to ____ these are my work times. If I do more than that it's like any other guy with a job that does overtime.

2. My business bank account along with paypal and epassporte is just that. Business bank accounts.

3. I have a seperate phone for my business. This is not to be answered by the kids saying "yo whats up homie".

4. If you don't like the above rules I will go back and get a factory job for 3 to 4 hundred a week.

The other night she demanded more attention. I simply shut the computer off and said "Sure thing and tommorow I'll call fridays staffing and see what kind of 8 dollar an hour job I can get" She quickly let me get back to work.

Not a bad idea, I think I'll try that starting tomorrow morning.

I'd be fine with leasing some office space, but I just don't see why I should have to, I'm just gonna have to lock myself in and damn the consequences.

Basically be strict on yourself about work times, and she'll be more mindful of it as well.

You should be able to work it out pretty well.

Got laugh about this. Hubby thought he was doing a favor by doing the laundry since I was behind in my work. He washed a red sweater of mine with his undies...now he has pink undies. :)

Our house has two offices.....fortunately, Tev understands...and we hum along, meeting each other in the garage for a smoke or we talk on icq.

Unfortunately, the 21 year old son and the 66 year old mother in law do not see that we are working....and interrupt at will...drives us both crazy.

The one that irks me the most and I love her to death is my sister in law, who 'works' outside the home and thinks nothing of calling us to pick our nephews up from school, let the dog in....etc....because we're home and she's at 'work'.

I might be in my home; but, it's every bit an office....

LEAVE ME ALONE WHEN I'M WORKING ---- is that so HARD?

And, yes, I work odd hours...and, yes..sometimes until late at night....

I love how the outside world says...'gee, wish *I* could do THAT!'
