Playboy.com is looking to hire a full-time SEO manager for either the LA or the Chicago office. Job description is below. All resumes and inquiries should be sent to the following email address: resume at playboy dot com. Post any questions here.

BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of the SVP of Marketing & E-Commerce, this position manages all of the Search Engine Marketing for both our subscription properties and E-Commerce. This includes developing a strategy for existing pages as well as being involved in the creation of new pages so that they appear naturally higher in search engine results. It will also include analysis of any paid search that we might do in the future. This position interacts heavily with the Director of Marketing & Subscriptions, operations staffs, and the creative staff internally and with industry professionals externally.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.Work with the marketing team to identify and establish successful search engine marketing techniques that will generate traffic to the revenue-producing areas of our sites. This will include an initial audit of all our sites and work with others to develop an effective SEO plan.

2.Identify optimization strategy for both new and existing content on all Playboy sites. This includes, but is not limited to site structure, page construction, content, keyword research, and SEO copywriting.

3.Identify new areas that can be added to Playboy sites to fill gaps in current search engine ranking and penetration.

4.Work closely with designers and editorial staff to mentor them in good SEO techniques.

5.Monitor, analyze, and report on search engine placements, traffic, and ROI.

6.Identify emerging trends in the industry that we can utilize to improve our traffic from search engines.

7.Work closely with the legal department to try to reduce the number of competitor sites using our trademarks and images.

PERSON SPECIFICATIONS:
A Bachelor?s Degree. A minimum of 2 years of SEO experience and 5 years of general internet experience. Must be knowledgeable about HTML, JavaScript, and CSS. Must have strong comprehension of the mechanics of search engines, knowledge of website design and development, and experience with paid placement. You must also be an independent worker with very strong organizational skills.

There's a couple people here I know qualified to do that... dunno if they want to stop making their own bank to work for someone else though... even if it is Playboy.

Is this a permanent position? Sounds like a great opportunity for someone however - anyone that can do what fits your job description can probably make more doing it for themselves

where did he say anything about the salary and working hourS? ?

working 8 hours a day 5 days a week for playboy at $20k a month doens't seem like a bad deal to me ,

you would have normal office hours , great pay and still some time to do your own thing

Save some money.. In my opinion unless you are going trying to slaughter the SE market you don't need a wiz SEO guy to run things. Contract out work for a couple of months every 6 months should do the trick.

It is a permanent position.

I realize there are plenty of people who could make more money on their own, but clearly there are other benefits to working full time for a large public company. That is not to say that money isn't important, but it certainly isn't the only consideration.

That being said, I am not sure what the average SEO who works for themselves makes, but the salary here would be competitive.

Make more than they can offer, yup, exactly... They'll only get someone sub-par unless they offer $200k/year, but then they'll expect instant results, though I wonder how big their search engine PPC budget is... :P

We have done this, but feel that we need to bring a full-time employee on board who will have a more intimate knowledge of our legal requirements, and who can work internally with our creative and operations teams to build effective pages/tours, etc...

Matt

From the job description I get the impression they're mostly looking for an organic seo. Some references were made to paid placements but not very much.

Yeah, only a brief mention of paid inclusions.. not sure they realize they're competing with a lot of people, unless they just want keywords relating to Playboy and Playboy bunny's names, etc..

Exactly right.. Why spend $20-$40k a year (borrowed money) for education, when you can make $100k+ per year...

I of course know the benefits to having a degree as a backup, just stating the above is more fun and rewarding...

Very good point. I will say that unless you have a degree, though, the experience would probably need to be more impressive. This should NOT discourage anyone from applying.

WOW. After actually reading through Primary Responsibilities.. I hope you'd be paying $200-$300k, otherwise you're not going to get anyone.

Oh, I bumped into a Playboy bunny at my gym today... a friend who I workout with who works with her pointed her to me.. don't know her name though.. heh.

We have a salary range in mind that I am not going to make public. I will say that if you are looking for $200K-$300K, stick with what you're doing. You will not make that in this position.

4.Work closely with designers and editorial staff to mentor them in good SEO techniques.

Teach them how to do proper SEO... Is there a length to this job or after hired for a year, and everyone is taught things.. you no longer need them? Not assuming that is how Playboy does business, I'd hope not..

Just examining your main sites, they're horribly under SEO'd.. I can do all of the above, but currently I'm doing my own projects, so well, in a year if you still haven't gotten your SEO game down then I'll contact you and make an offer.

No, this is not a year and then out. As everyone knows, search engines have always, and will continue to change, and we need someone on board who is rsponsible for noticing when those changes are made and reacting to them. Our creative team and editorial staffs have enough work as it is.

As for our main sites, I agree that they are horribly "under-SEO'd". We just don't have the resources to put someone on this full time. Hence the posting...

anyone who thinks this job is a $200k/year salaried position is kidding themselves. To a large company this is a $50k/year position (tops), **possibly** with the option of commission on top of that. But i would even say you're looking at $36k/year + commission. Remember, big companies want(/need) you to earn 10x your salary/year to make it worthwhile.

It sounds like you need a very skilled Webmaster that knows his way around the SE?s. Anyone that contacts you that says they are SEO skilled for $60k a year is pulling your chain. You just hired a person to learn your dime.

I?m not an SEO guy, not like WG at least, and we pull down $60k from the SE?s every 3 or 4 months on top of running our program. We have designers and teaching them SEO work is pointless. They set everything up for the SEO work to be done, which saved me 3 minutes of work. I also have a nice lady on staff with a Bachelor in Retail Marketing and double masters in Marketing and E Marketing. Her input for the company is priceless; her input for SE?s is pointless.

good luck with that, I'm sure the position will be a lot of fun though and from what I gather a great company to work for, so the money is not the only consideration here I'm sure...a ton of networking in other businesses to be had for a saavy individual...

Why is Playboy looking for an SEO whiz? Are you guys interested in how your affiliates are able to get so many signups? Or does it have to do with how often your content is stolen and uploaded to sites?

Why haven't you guys ever gone after the Usenet groups that trade Playboy photos exclusively?
