:tongue Porn production and STDs

I was wondering, out of curiosity, how do people that are involved in various production go about the whole `STD' factor? I've noticed that a lot of porn is jimmy-less -- not a bad thing tho! ;)

Unfortunetly, for myself. I'm stuck with HSV2

For the hell of it I searched for herpes on Google and found this site

Here's what they had to say about oral herpes:

"Oral herpes is usually acquired between the ages of 0-10, and is frequently the result of an adult with a cold sore kissing a child."

Too bad... stuck with good ol' Herpes, are ya?

To answer your question, usually if a porn company wants to shoot tangibles, (ie: vhs, dvd) they need to worry about sales in countries where the condom isn't so popular, and thus shoot without preventative measures. Other companies who shoot for internet distribution don't worry about losing sales in that way, so they have the added luxury of protection and can shoot with condoms. On top of that, performers are tested for STIs every 30-45 days and can only work with a clean bill of health.

As to your HSV2... don't beat yourself up too bad. Just like crabs and warts, herpes is spread by skin-to-skin contact, so unless you had a condom covering your ENTIRE genital area - cock, balls, thighs, and mons, you were still at risk for it. And doctors these days are treating HSV like any other skin condition. And there is suppression therapy out there, such as Valtrex. But as far as Herpes goes, the longer a person has it, the fewer outbreaks they have each year. So, having the bug is going to be the worst in the first 2 years.

Best of luck!

And the person you had sex with had to have outbreaks for you to get.
You can still get it even if the person doesn't have outbreaks, but the chance is SLIM.

90% of people have HSV and most of them will never take notice of it. But if you do have outbreaks you are in danger of contracting more severe veneral deseases as your body is open for all kinds of viruses and bacteria. Be careful.

I've only had 2 out-breaks. Both times, I went to the walk-in showed them my cock and they gave me a 5 day prescription for Valtrex. I'm glad it's not worse.

ya but from what i understand, companies only test for hiv, clamedia, gonahrea and they dont test for any type of herpes at all. That scares the fuck out of me to be honest. I would already be in porn doing my own shoots if they te4sted for this. I know u can test for this but i heard its pretty damn pricey which the company i guess would have to pay for

We always use condoms and require AIM test. Its unethical to shoot without a condom and I don't give a fuck what percentage of sales is lost, which is bullshit anyway. If the content is great they will buy it anyway, condom or not.

I beg to differ. If I see a scene an I see a condom, CLICK, on to the next one. I mean if you were watching like Superman and you could see the strings would you still enjoy the movie?

Yep I have heard that before but the second part of my reply was - I don't give a fuck. Its a minority. Its a myth. And besides, like I said, even if I lost 90% of sales, I still would not shoot without a condom.

Hey it's your biz and I give you props for standing up for what you believe in. Money isn't everything. I'm just stating my personal preference and the vast majority of preferences of guys I know. I feel the actors are adults they can choose and if they don't want to wear condoms well they probally don't wear them outside the set and I know they are not testing the dudes they fuck then so what's the difference? Perosnally if I was doing a shoot I'd wear one because I know the girls screw around just as much if not more than "regular" girl I would fuck and I'd wear one with a "regular" chick.

The difference is I think that many of the models in porn are just stupid kids. You would not believe how many 18 year old girls have told me they had thought that as long as everybody was AIM tested they were safe. When I told them the male talent they shot uncovered with yesterday has a reputation for banging haitian crack whores 2 and 3 times a week their expression changed.

Seriously I think its a minority, I get a hundred emails a month asking for all sorts of things in my shoots from members and taking off the condom has never been mentioned. But like I said, if I am wrong and I loose 50% of sales so be it. I'm not going to knowingly be a party to the death of an 18 year old girl, even though legally I guess I could say it wasn't my fault. The other thing is that I know first hand that a lot of the models are pressured into doing it - "no condom - no shoot" they are told, and so they do the shoot anyway.

I have never had anything worse than a UTI (when my sister washed the tub with this chemical cleanser in the tub & I came home from college after not having a bath (just a shower that was -20*F not heated) and couldnt wait to get in the bathtub. It looked really clean, i rinsed it quick, ran a bath, jumped in, and shaved my amazon hairy legs. By the time my bath was over I was a little sore. Before the end of the night I was pissing blood and in tears, bent over in pain, the shit had cleaned me out alright! lol Funny now, HORRIBLE then!

Then my only other gynocological nightmare was when they put me on birth control & the first month I spotted the entire time, was crying for no reason, shaking, dizzy, moody, snapping at everyone, nausea & headaches the entire time. So they said the hormones were too strong, and switched my pills, the hormonal change caused me to have a yeast infection... first and only!! OMFG

Lets just say that those 2 experiences alone are more than enough reason to make sure each and every experience is a safe one! I NEVER want anything that causing itching, burning, sores, etc. At least the times I mentioned were TEMPORARY, I can't imagine living with that shit for life!! I can see why the Valtrex commercials get so much airplay, every other fucking commercial! ;) lmao

There is just as much a risk in porn as banging a hoe at a bar.
HIV is pretty hard to get and, is routinely checked for. I would say warts is the most popular std out in LA from what I've been told by a few producers.
Chlymidia and ghonerea (sp) is pretty popular too, but anything that a shot in the ass of penicillin can cure isnt too serious.

If you have both, is it Herpes Duplex?

Ps Not only is it expensive to do th tst, but fairly meaningless since just about everyone will show up positive (how many ppl do you know who have never in their life had any form of cold sore?).

That's true.. Sex is sex, if you haven't had sex with as many people as a porn star has and you've had sex with a porn star or someone who's been with someone who's been with a person that's fucked as many people as a porn star you're just as much at risk.. Everybody is at risk the same..

Here's an interesting fact my doctor told me, 1/3rd of society has HSV2 -- the majority just don't know it

ya but people dont seem to really read up about diseases...You see even with condoms, u can contract any type of herpes or genital warts. How u ask, Well for those who do not know, skin contact. For instance, i got a buddy who has HPV, which is in the genital warts tree accept that he has showed me what it looks like, and guess what? It doesnt look like an open sore or anything. It looks like a normal pimple just a tad darker. I read up about all this because its a must these days. From what i read, 1 million people catch herpes every year. So condoms is a must but u can still get it, so keep in mind.

Oh yeah, completely agree. And supposedly you can get aids too from oral sex, though its like a million to 1 shot. Bottom line is, a model is very unlikely to die from my shoots. Herpes and warts would suck for sure, but its not the same as aids... I can't eliminate 100% risk - just all that I possibly can. I realize the big companies on the west coast still shoot no condom, but I hope to see that change some day.

Just so you all know, up here in Canada we shoot with condoms all the time. In 2003, when I was performing, I went down to LA to see if I could get some work. I went to several adult film companies and they were all willing to hire me -- until I mentioned my condom rule. Then nobody wanted anything to do with me. I ended up shooting one BJ scene for Red Light and another scene with Ed Powers (with condom!) but that was it for me.

What really sucked is that all the other models in the house didn't have a condom rule and were shooting nearly every day. But I just couldn't play Russian Roulette with my health like that -- even though I thought about it long and hard and with the whole "everybody else is doing it" going on around me. Not to mention the pressure I got from my talent agent, who was frustrated because I was staying at his house, but not making him any cash.

In the end I flew home early, completely broke but with health and conscience intact -- and am not sorry at all. Besides, less than a year later, Canadian performer Laura Roxx got HIV from shooting in LA.

I continued to shoot with condoms in Canada without incident until I retired from the business this past January 2005. And another interesting thing to note... I never caught an STI the entire time I was shooting porn - 3 years - and I attribute that directly to condom use!

Practice safer sex, folks... porn industry or not!
