My PC lags periodically!

for 5minutes it works great

LAGGING

for 5minutes it works great

LAGGING

and so on... what could be wrong??? It doesnt matter what I do at the lag period, everything lags then!

fucked up antivirus/trying to update it but the update site is offline

Be more specific, what kind of computer you have? windows xp? sp1? sp2?

so update your antivirus software or if you dont have one get AVG Free edition or you can try (30 days trial) Kaspersky

and also do a windows update

Its XP SP2, Im thinking to run adaware + virus catcher.

Talking about the heat, Ive already cleaned my cooler Works better now

If it is a Pentium I would put money on it being a faulty chip. To find out, go into BIOS and disable the Hyper Threading

sounds almost like mine
except mine freezes up 30secs.. 1min then goes back to running fine

happens only when run MSN/MIRC

if I do stuff without thos eon it.. runs good

in any case.. gonna be reformating it anyways.. hopefully fixes probs.. I hate formatting and reinstalling everything
