Ripping DVDs and copying from Blockbuster...

What's the best way to do this? I have that "No Late Fees" deal from Blockbuster, but they only let you checkout 2 at a time, so, I am thinking about just copying the ones that I rent, and watching them later.

I figure if it takes 4 hours to copy 2 movies, I could return to Blockbuster 2 or 3 times per day, and pump out about 6 to 8 movies.

Eventually, I should have all of the Blockbuster titles, and I can cancel my membership.

Any tips on doing this?

Dont think you will cancel your membership, remember the movies will never end. The thing you can do is go to rent more movies, cheaper and with the same quality to another DVD´s rental place

Hmm.. Good points. This is a joke thread by the way. Not really looking for tips. I'm sure I could figure it out if I were so inclined.

with dvd-shrink, you can rip/burn a movie in under an hour.

you're limited to only 2 movies at a time? my store has no limits that i know of. i took out 8 dvds the other week.

Nice! Yeah, they have a limit of 2. It's a smaller Blockbuster, so their stock isn't all that. Usually everything is checked out when I go there, so I end up having to watch old movies from the garbage aisles.

DVD decryptor -> Nero Image Drive to mount the decrypted image -> DVD Shrink to reauthor it to DVD. Or DVD X Copy Express, but you won't be able to reauthor the ripped dvd.

Hey where do you live, because I don't feel like paying for a place to live anymore so I thought I would just take your house. I don't feel like buying food either, so I will eat yours.

What a fucking idiot. I have never understood this mentality. It's stealing plain and simple. Just because it's a movie, or a song doesn't make it any different than stealing a fucking car.

It's called copyright violation buddy, and if you were any sort of "artist" you would understand.

Hey what does your woman look like, I might want to steal her too. Wouldn't be so hard I suspect, as you probably don't have enough money to buy her Mc'D's.

depending on your TV, the quality difference will usually go unnoticed.

All that isn't necessary. With the new DVD-Shrink, it'll decrypt, allow you to reauthor and then rip/burn all in the same program. In fact, if you're not reauthoring, you can rip/burn a DVD in less than 5 clicks.

The key word is "rents" in your sentence. If he wants to "own" it try paying the 19.95.
If I rent a car, does that mean I can just keep it for my own if I want.

if you rented a car and then built a replica of it using your own parts and the rented car as a model, would that be wrong?

If he wants to have a nice dvd collection, I hear there is a novel thing called buying the dvd. Have you heard of something called money. You use it to pay for things that you want that other people have made.

You're probably the first one to bitch if someone copies your site. Then again, you probably don't have any sites that someone would want to copy.

I have modded XBox that's in my network. I just rip the disc image to my XBox and then FTP from the XBox to my PC (with a few hundred gig of storage) and watch from there. Burn to DVD if needed. Works for games and movies and requires no modchip and 20 minutes of your time.

http://xboxsoftmods.com

The XBox is my Media Center.

You used a fine analogy, but you used it to support a weak argument.

And saying that people who copy rented movies are the same people who steal content is quite a stretch.

I guess you abide by every single law?

I would figure...

If he's paying to rent the movie he's not paying to have the movie itself in his possession, he's paying for the rights to watch that movie. It's intellectual property, like software. The dvd itself is worth nothing, so the same backup copy rules would apply but in this case the license to view the video only exists for a short period of time.

Copying it would be perfectly legal, watching it more than once in the future... maybe not? But im no lawyer.

I'm no lawyer though, haha

Whether or not it's stealing is debateable and actually a grey area of the law.

Tell that to all the people being prosecuted by the music industry for downloading mp3's. They're just copies, right?

Oh give me a break... it's completely different than stealing a car.

There's no one that will suffer because he copied a movie from the video store. The video store made it's money by him renting it, and the production company made it's money selling the license to the video store. They both profited.

Plus, this isn't "art"... motion pictures are mass produced and marketed to make money. And the majority of movies comming out are terrible. You think the video store will give you your money back if you bring it back the next day and tell them you didn't get your money's worth? fat chance.

Correction, for sharing/uploading mp3's... I'd like you to find one case where someone was prosecuted for simply downloading mp3's.

You're an idiot...

He didn't say copy the movie he rented and distribute copies to 100 of his closest friends.

I'm not sharing the copied movie with 100 of my friends.

And even if I were to do so, Blockbuster doesn't directly lose cash each time one of my friends were to watch the copied movie (unlike how I'd lose money each time one of your friends logged in and downloaded my content).

You're comparing apples and oranges. Here's a better analogy:

You buy a membership to my site, stick around for a month, download all my content, and then watch it for months to come after your one month membership has expired. Would that be wrong?

It's a little different. You can't rent music. (Rhapsody and the new Napster can not be included in this conversation)

If he were trying to copy and sell or make multiple copies for his friends that would be bad. But if someone is legally renting a movie and copying it for his own collection the MPAA doesn't care as much as if he were one of the guys putting it into the Shareeza network.

Bingo. Not one single person has been prosecuted or sued for just downloading MP3s. Those who got caught were distributing the files.

You think the video store will give you your money back if you bring it back the next day and tell them you didn't get your money's worth? fat chance.
If you think that the movie companies make their money off of selling to blockbuster, you need to go back to the community college you came from. They make the majority of their profit from dvd sales. How do you think they can pay for those non "art" movies that you and your buddies sneak into.

At the library here you can pick out pretty much any cd and listen to it for free... well, the $10/year library card fee anyways.

I didn't say they make MOST of their money selling licensing to blockbuster, but yes... they do make money from it.

You're an idiot and I highly doubt you are involved in the adult industry, this board is for adult webmasters only. Please leave the board.

Do you have any idea how much a video store pays to license a video for rental purposes?

It's you who I wonder about being in the industry. This is a simple copyright violation. Do you know anything about copyright? Ya know, it's that thing that you pay a license fee for so you can rip your dvd's for your content.
Maybe you just "copy" those too.

If you have ever had any content shot for your site, you would understand that you have to pay for usage rights. Having been a photographer for 15 years, gives me the edge in experience with copyright here.

You my dear, are the idiot.

I didn't know that copying dvd's from blockbuster had anything to do with the adult industry. Maybe you should leave the board.
