200 blogs

To tell you the truth I don't really get blogs. :helpme I find most of them pretty boring; Tardblog was the only one I ever read that I thought was worth my time.

Whew Hoooo! Just figured out Permalinks, and got them setup for all my blogs! Now I have GREAT URLs for the SEs. Want to thank Baddog for suggesting this! Anyway, now my urls have the post's title in them!

Just did a trackback to ya! That worked pretty cool. I refreshed your page, and bam there's my "comment". Between that and the permalinks help I should really have myself setup for some good SE traffic in the next month. Let's just say you fucking rock. BTW - I added a link to your site in my friend's blogs area. If you like my site feel free to link back. If not, that's cool... I like your site either way so your link stays.

Find the entry you wish to trackback, scroll down to COMMENTS, that will take you to a new page with my entry on it.

Right below my entry, and above where you would make your comment you will see "The URI to TrackBack this entry is: THE URL OF THE ENTRY/trackback/"
you will copy that trackback URL and insert it on your write or publish page in the space provided

While reading about everything wordpress over the last few days I've ran into the spam prevention plugin over and over. I'm gonna need to check into it, and stop the moderation of comments. I can see how you could build loyality fast by letting them see their comment right away.

I changed your link description to include that phrase. I was checking your site when you said you added my RSS feed too, because I'd never seen those kind of links, and wanted to see how someone listed them. I couldn't find a link to my feed on your site. How are you suppose to list them?

I've been thinking about maybe giving away a long video or something to people if they register. Not sure what the differance is if they are registered or not, but it would be nice bragging rights. What's everyone else's thoughts on registered blog viewers?

You won't be able to tell just by looking at it, just trust me when I tell you that I add RSS feeds for any blog I have a hard link with that has one.

re: registered users: It gives you additional emails, but to be honest, I don't have enough registered users to make it an issue . . . . yet

about registering members, that's definitely a good goal to have as you develop your blog. Just make sure you dont overextend yourself, manageing all those site features may take up alot of your time - spreading the quality of your blog 'thin' and the returns you see from it may not be immediate.

However, I owned a membership site at one point with over 4000 registered businesspeople and companies will sometimes pay you "per member" so it becomes a good way to quantify how much you can sell your site for. If you have the time, resources and inclination, then go for it! :winkwink:

Okay, I looked at your blog entry. Instead of linking to http://www.whitecheech.com/index.php...rds/trackback/ you would just use http://www.whitecheech.com/index.php...cademy-awards/ (in the text of the entry).

Now, I am unfamiliar with the script you are using, but on the 2 that I do use, on the page where you construct your entry there is usually a spot below the space that you trype your entry for you to insert trackback URLs.

If you want to set me up with a temp user/pass so I can see the admin, I can give you a more precise location.

Okay, it is impossible for it to not show up on your blog, because that is where you make the entry. The trackback just puts the first couple of lines on my comments area.

I'll be blunt but honest -- toplists are *very* low priority for my blogs. The traffic trickle is just too tiny. There are dozens of search-engine-related or link-exchange-related things I need to do first on my blogs, before I mess with toplists. Every now and then I declare it "toplist" day and update all my toplist links, culling the worthless ones etc -- but when it's not toplist day, I just have too many more better claims on my time.

I try to read all the blog-related discussion on GFY, which is how I found your kind words about blogtied.

Okay, if you go here you will see your trackback from your blog entry found here - so that works, congrats.

However, in the text of your entry you linked WhiteCheech as this when it should be like this - that way when they click that link it will take them directly to the article, instead of just to the front page.

Not a chance. Blogs are about text and about community. If they aren't written in a human voice (see http://www.cluetrain.com) they won't be very successful. And if they aren't part of the blogging community, they won't have the advantages that make blog traffic valuable to adult webmasters.

I'm not saying that crappy porn blogs can't get some search engine traffic and make some sales. But they won't get page ranks of five and six, or thousands of daily niche-targeted search engine visitors, or thousands of daily bookmarkers -- which are the criteria by which I am defining "success" at the moment.

Only rules are you have to put one for us on your index page, that your blog is for surfers (has content), and nothing illegal (references to underage teens, lolitas, beastiality, etc., etc. will not get linked).

Point is, this all takes time. Blogs are not a "fire and forget" project. People who keep talking about automating the process or "starting fifty blogs" or "hiring someone to do the updates" are just showing that they don't get it yet.

Buying "blog entries" is like buying "sentences for a book -- any old sentences, as long as they have capital letters up front and periods at the end." Unless you're prepared to spend what Gawker Media spends, and put a smart skilled wordsmith on your permanent payroll, you're probably wasting your dollars.

Outsourcing text for a blog may make sense if you are trying to create blog-shaped text-heavy robot-traps for search engines. Not otherwise.

Regarding trackback, my understanding of it is that it works automatically when it works at all (which is, only when both blogs are trackback enabled.) If my blog used software that knows trackback (it doesn't), and if your blog software does trackback pings (I dunno), then when you blogged about a particular post of mine, your software would "ping" my software, and a trackback link would appear in the comments below my post, telling my readers that you had written about this post.

It's possible to "ping" a trackback-enabled blog in other ways, creating a bogus spam trackback link on my blog pointing whereever. I don't know how to do that, but I know that such trackback spam is growing into a huge problem for track-back enabled blogs. From what I know, any method of "trackbacking to me" other than blogging about one of my posts while using trackback-enabled blog software, would be spam.

I'm in the process of converting my blogs to WordPress, but I don't know if I'll enable trackback or not. It makes a lot of sense for political blogs, but I don't know if it makes sense for adult blogs. I just don't have the experience with it to say.
