It is you that are a fool and asshole. The military personell involved...did their job as in following SOP and Rules of Engagement. The car was speeding and did not slow down even though they were visually warned via hand signals and by flashing lights...and in addition continued coming toward the check point even when warning shots were fired. to the troops involved.

An unusual checkpoint. Poor bastards probably thought they were about to be taken hostage again.

They had to slow down and stop the car since if there were terrorists in this car it would explode the check point.

Maybe you missed the part of the first article that says:

But Mr Romano insists the "tragic outcome" of her abduction should not be allowed to fuel anti-US sentiment in Italy.

The army did the right thing. You got a car speeding toward a check point ignoring signs to stop & warning shots. They've seen this a thousand times. A few seconds later & boom! a car bomb kills & hurts God knows how many people. No way around it, the Army did the right thing. People can bitch & complain but, unless they are there, they have no right to say the actions they(Army)took was wrong!

The Italian "intelligence" officer gets the Darwin Award for speeding towards an army checkpoint in an area renowned for suicide bombings. How thick can you get?

Not to mention the ignorance of the Italian Intel officer for not alerting the controlling forces of their plan and/or route. A little "pre-planning" goes a long way! It's almost like the Italians WANTED it to happen, asked for it. No one in Intel could be that fucking stupid! Or, could they???

euhmm, lots of newsreports are CONTRADICTING each other

of course the us is going to claim they did nothing wrong and it was the car that got the bullets made a mistake by not stopping , what else they going to say ? ?

I just heard now a newsreport on the radio that the husbant of the journalist got word from her in the hospital that the americans wanted to KILL her because she had info on the us army troops in fallujah that the us didn't want to world to know

this story is developing and "the car was speeding and refused to stop" is to stupid of a story for anyone to take serious , the Italians are now saying the us knew very well who was in that car and it was an assasination gone wrong

my bet this is going to cause some SERIOUS DRAMA , when it is confirmed that us wanted that sgrena DEAD ! ....

As if people care what the corrupt Berlusconi government has to say...

Like the wife of the killed Italian officer said: the soldiers are not to blame but the people in charge are to blame, hence the fools and the assholes that I am referring to...
Blaming individual soldiers for widespread and systematic torture and abuse approved by their superiors in US led prisons has only been a way to safe the highest ranked asses.

This war is a farce. If you still haven't found out about that, please start wiping the shit out of your eyes.

Do you really think the US army didn't know who was in that convoy? Are you that naive?? Her liberation was the main news of the week.

This smells fishy, very fishy...

Yeah pretty obvious not to many ex-soldiers on gfy, in all wars friendly fire happens every day. You should hear some of the stories my father tells me from WWII where it was not rare to drop a bomb on or shoot down your buddies due to crap technology, bad weather, and the mass confusion that happens when you are 19 and people are shooting at you.

Only a true idiot could believe this was anything other than what it was, a traggic accident, and only a bigger idiot could think these sorts of incidents will ever decrease in an area where muslims routinely drive towards you so they can blow themselves up.

Perhaps next time they should send in negotiators who have the brains to slow down for a checkpoint.

She was writing against the war, and as a GFY'er wrote yesterday in another thread , she was a " fucking commie" so she deserves to die ....

Coincidence that this checkpoint was an " unusual one " ...

For the silly half of the Americans that are still living in a brainwashed state of denial about all the atrocities comitted in Iraq by their government since 2003...perhaps it is useful to listen to a reliable comment for once.
This is what Guiliana Sgrena has to say:
"I was especially shocked because we thought that by then the danger was past," she told Italy's Rai radio.
Ms Sgrena, who was wounded in the incident, has been sent to a military hospital in Rome for an operation.
She denied US military accounts that the car was speeding past a checkpoint when it was fired upon.

Unfortunately for the US government they didn't manage to kill her...

The only person to blame here is the idiot who was driving the car.

A similar incident happened a while back where a bunch of innocent people got killed for the same exact reasons. It's common sense. Iraq is being attacted by terrorists who drive cars at high rates of speeds into checkpoints and other areas. It would seem pretty clear to me that when your driving up to a checkpoint WITH ARMED GUARDS that you would SLOW DOWN and PAY FUCKING ATTENTION and DO WHAT YOU ARE TOLD TO DO.

We have a nuclear power plant outside of Phoenix here. I'm pretty God damn fucking sure that I drove up to the gate at 50mph and REFUSED TO STOP AFTER THEY FIRED WARNING SHOTS that I would be shot too.

If you are going to make shit up at least make it somewhat plausibe.

I believe most Iraqis know what the Rules of Engagement and SOP?s are by now. Especially after their TV channels put out these procedures so people wouldn?t be mistakenly killed by US troops.

Jesus Christ people, try to think a little before you moan on and on like this.

Lets say...

You are given orders to kill an innocent journalist. Never mind that for that to happen, quite a few people would have to know and if caught you would spend possibly life in prison... And its almost impossible to keep a secret in the U.S., so you will be caught...

But you are stupid, so you agree to do it anyway...

Then you do it IN FRONT of witnesses (other soldiers) and leave some alive to tell their side, not say 1 mile before the checkpoint, where you could easily dress in Iraqi clothes and claim its just another terrorist attack?

Oh, ok... and I assume the US is keeping aliens a secret too, always the same folks, and you probbly think we are keeping Elvis alive too.

Wearing Iraqi clothes the probability of getting killed yourself would rise 200%

Have you forgotten the "incident" of the Palestine Hotel in Bagdad not even two years ago where the US targetted and killed non-embedded journalists? Yep, the tank firing the grenate got the order directly from his superiors.

The US government doesn't exactly bother keeping secrets, they just lie about everything. Welcome to the matrix

Good news is that Saddam h torture rooms, prisons and mass graves are not his anymore to play with. The bad news is that they are now under new administration : the US of A.

Goes with the 9/11 approach : Saudis fly planes in the WTC, Americans attack Iraq...

Pretty good logic.

How about those " secrets" ...

Quote:
The Salt Pit was the top-secret name for an abandoned brick factory, a warehouse just north of the Kabul business district that the CIA began using shortly after the United States invaded Afghanistan in October 2001. The 10-acre facility included a three-story building, eventually used by the U.S. military to train the Afghan counterterrorism force, and several smaller buildings, which were off-limits to all but the CIA and a handful of Afghan guards and cooks who ran the prison, said several current and former military and intelligence officers.

The CIA wanted the Salt Pit to be a "host-nation facility," an Afghan prison with Afghan guards. Its designation as an Afghan facility was intended to give U.S. personnel some insulation from actions taken by Afghan guards inside, a tactic used in secret CIA prisons in other countries, former and current CIA officials said.

And how about getting documents for the 9/11 commission ... and the National Guard records ...

THE USA keeps way more secrets and thruths from its population than you think.

Dude, you weren't there either, so it's quite possible you have some of that shit in your own eyes.

Anti-US alarmists like you will take any incident available and twist it and blow it into something it's not. I bet I can guess where you live.

What fucking ever. Pretty fucking hard for a bunch of guards who can care less what someone wrote in some newspaper to tell who is in the car at fifty yards away while the car is speeding at them at 50mph.

Do you honestly think that the average grunt gives a fuck what someone writes in some newspaper in a foreign country? Do you think anyone in Iraq guarding a checkpoint reads the newspapers in Italy? No.

What about people who reserve judgement until all the facts are known? You know, those who can put their bias aside and wait until they can consider the truth.

You know, the truth? It's that abstract concept that represents what really happened, as opposed to what a pack of dipshit hateful hyenas would have you believe.

Nothing new, the US has been targeting real journalists since the start of the occupation. They don't want the American people to see what's really going on there. That's why the people stopped the war in Vietnam, they saw the truth on TV every day. If that kid who constantly bases Dan Rather because it's the latest talking point was more than 15 years old, he'd remember Rather was one of the best Vietnam war corespondents, and a major reason people actually knew the truth during that war. Look what's on TV now, war coverage is like a video game being promoted by cheerleaders.

Look at those Al Jazzera reporters who were killed after giving the US army their location, on more than one occasion. One of the editors at CNN just got canned for admitting this in public.

The Liberals are extremely smart. They are quick to figure out these conspiracies as laugh as if the rest of the country is just to stupid to figure it out.

They claim that the republican party is full of dumb idiots that are stupid to pull off the simpliest tasks. Surely these dumb ass republicans cant be that stupid.

One fly in the ointment! Liberals havn't been able to implement one core policy in the last 40 years in the United States. Countries run by liberals have watched as the United States of America led by conservatives have prospered.

If the liberals were that smart, wouldn't they have figured out a way to have some success in modern history?

I think you should realize that no matter how many times you claim to be superior, you time is running out to prove it. Most voters have already given up on you.

Chew on that, and discover how intelligent you have to be to continue to fail.

You really live in a Black and White world...

Pssst: Liberals left a huge surplus for the conservatives to spend...

BTW, what about my " business thread " ... you lost your tongue or you have it Bush's ass .... ???
