:stop Judge makes new rule for bloggers. EFF to ask CA Court of Appeals to intervene

Judge says that although he considers bloggers journalists they do not have the same constitutional right to protect the identities of its sources as traditional media organizations. Depending on the final outcome/appeal of this ruling this could have a chilling effect on many investigative blogs

Think outside the porn world. Bloggers have been responsible for bringing many stories to light in the past couple years that might have gone unreported.

I can't believe nobody is interested in this with all the talk of blogs here.

Here is a current article at news.com (CNET):

The coming crackdown on blogging

Maybe it isn't a matter of not interested, perhaps it is more an issue of not being relevant to any of the blogs we run.

As I make up most of the stuff on my blog, I know it isn't relevant to me.

You really should read the last link I posted, http://news.com.com/The+coming+crack...3-5597079.html

If your blog ever links to anything even remotely politically related the outcome of this affects you.

BTW, the link above is about a 2nd ruling within one week that judges have made against bloggers.

You have the right to free speech. Unless of course you piss off the government.

that would be unfortunate. they really are a form of journalist. maybe the best form, the grass roots. i think it will be found short-sighted and detremental to rule that way.

I dont think blogs should be used as a news source, unless its affiliated to a known news source. How would we know which blog is telling the truth, over-reporting, or under-reporting a story... Illegitimate blogs should stay out factual news stories.
