TECHIE question... need help

I just took a laptop hard-drive out of my old laptop...

I put it into an external firewire case and connected it to my desktop.

I am not booting from that drive... but I want to access the data on it.

I see it as drive D: no problem and can access ALL the data on it...

EXCEPT... the desktop on that drive... where are the files I need are located.

It is obviously something with NTFS and the permission systems...

HELP!

Hit me with ya best shot!
Fire away!

THANKS

Are you logged in as "Administrator" on your current machine? (I know it's a lame question, but I gotta ask)

Login as Administrator then click on the properties tab of the folder and change the ownership etc... Those files were password protected from your old laptop.

because you are a admin and logged in on your pc does not mean you are an admin of the laptop from your pc .Windows knows the difference. You would have to set that up before you took out the drive to get to the admins profile.

Did you try putting the HD back into the laptop, tweaking permissions to readable by everyone, and then trying again on the desktop?

Or if that doesn't work, just move the stuff you need out of the desktop folder...

this is probably your best bet. the problem is that the administrator will have a different guid on each machine and thus not be the same.
