Taking a photo via webcam to prevent chargebacks?

Good idea or not? My buddy wants to build a system where a customer has to take a snap shot of himself or herself to protect against chargebacks.

I told him that it wouldn't work because people that purchase memberships generally want to remain anonymous. Am I wrong?

yah I don't think that would go over real well imo. A better idea may be to take a snap of the actual CC. Not sure if that is the best option either but it would def be more accepted than a snap shot of the user.

well if you can get them to take a picture of themselves......you could most likely get them to scan a copy of their cc with something showing the current date (scan the actual physical card and also get a scan of the front of the local newspaper)....that?s why its sooooo hard for chargeback?s when you have the card "swiped". If you want far fetched?.well there ya have it.

nice idea.. but it wouldn't work. What you could do is offer a lower rate for people that do submit pictures.

Beyond not having a webcam or camera the customer would lose the "impulse" to buy.

Actually, the more I think about it; shouldn't the webmaster be figuring out why the site produces chargebacks and fix that, rather than worry about the customer?

Chargebacks are not a big enough problem to bother with a solution like this.

Wouldn't work man ... if the site is that worried about the chargebacks it's not worth whacking off to.

Obviously in some cases the site owner may be to blame for deceptive advertising but often times a surfer will just charge back because they can. The solution proposed seems like it is trying to tackle that problem, although I could be wrong.

Nah, wouldnt be a good idea. They can just send a picture of someone else that was taken by a camcorder, digital cam, web cam, whatever and submit it. But like it was said before... you'd have to get them in front of the site or whatever to prove it's them and most wouldnt because they are afraid you would show it on the net or something. You can possibly get them to sign a release and have them mail it or fax it to show thier actual signature and a copy of the bottom portion of an ID (hide thier personal info) to show the signature matches. That would be the best way I would think. It would be hard to fake a signature and provide an ID along with it. But either way you choose ... I feel they would move along to somewhere else.

Pretty silly idea if you ask me

1. Remain anonymous. Why trust an unknown person that runs a porn site with your pic? Who knows what they will use it for.
2. Not everyone has a cam.
3. The ones that has it. They might know how to cam with someone on MSN since there's an on/off button. But do they know exactly how to take a pic and then upload it to the site?

In the last several years there has been talk about a variety of way to help cut down on CB's. On company began to manufacture a USB Biometric scanner that would scan your fingerprint. Their plan was to match that similar to AVS - the hoped the associations, Visa / Mastercard, would have been receptive to that. It went to where.

CDCs are about the ones that are initiated against you, it really doesn't make that much difference whether you win or lose them, the fact the end user wanted one is what counts against you if the bank or the card association chooses to look at it that way.
