When i returned from the VS i took 2 DS's home with me..
I really like em.. and there are many many inovative games comming out soon.. I will get the PSP soon as well. but somehow i think there will be not many inovative games for it.. Graphics will be better than the DS but it has no touch screen wich opened a new way to play games..

actually I would really call it....."NEW". maybe new to their game console....
In June of 1978, Toshihiro Nishikado designed Space Invaders for Tatio of Japan. He created all the aspects for the coin operated arcade machine. At that time it was not an uncommon process for a single individual to take on such a task. He had based this game on a dream he had. Japanese school children eagerly awaiting Santa?s arrival on Christmas Eve to appear in the sky above them. But instead of Santa appearing, row upon row of space aliens slowly lowered themselves from the planet Venus. The children, knowing the earth was certainly to be destroyed cleverly put together a home made laser blaster made from a hubcap, spark plugs and a car battery. By moving their laser from left to right as they hid behind bunkers was a productive way to eliminate the enemy and save the earth. In reward for their good work the next morning they were awarded with presents and figgy pudding on Christmas day. Upon Space Invaders release in Japan, the craze of playing this game not only caused riots, but it also caused a nation wide coin shortage which forced the government to quadruple Yen production to keep up with the growing demand. Just months after being released in Japan, Taito fell so far behind demand in production that they licensed to Bally Midway for production in North America. . Midway watched as gamers began to line up to play. Some 55,000 more machines were produced for the United States. The game not only sparked never before seen interest in arcades it was the a hit and worked its way up to be in pizza parlors, bowling alleys and ice cream shops. The game play was quite simple looking. A screen of 48 space aliens, divided into six rows of eight move horizontally across the screen. Once reaching the side of the screen, the aliens lowered themselves by a row bringing them closer to player?s laser blaster at the bottom of the screen. The goal of the games was to eliminate the aliens with the laser by firing single laser shots while moving left to right dodging behind bunkers as the aliens shots rained upon you. As the player eliminated the aliens they descended and moved faster. As each wave progressed the safety of the green barriers that were used for safety decay, leaving you vulnerable to the alien fire. An occasional Flying saucer would appear traveling at the top of the screen. If the player is lucky enough to fire at it and hit it, the player would be awarded bonus points ranging from 50 to 300 points. When all the aliens were destroyed the next level became increasingly difficult as you progressed. Only seven sounds, eight since one sound is played backwards exist. The game's dominant deep bass ''thump, thump, thump'' is still remembered as one of the most intimidating noises in video game history. The laser shot and exploding effects are quite well done also. As expert gamers soon mastered the art of counting shots and hitting the saucer just at the right time to get the 300 bonus points, scoring as high as 100,000 points. When a player accumulated more points than anyone previously, their score would be shown at the top of the Space Invaders screen until it was beaten Space Invaders was followed by several sequels as Space Invaders - Part II, Space Invaders Deluxe, Super Space Invaders 91 (Super Space Invaders has also another name... Majestic Twelve Space Invaders Part IV. In 1980 Atari was honored to acquire the license for Space Invaders for the Atari 2600 Home Video game computer. This was the first arcade game ever to be adapted for a home gaming system. Although the Atari 2600 unit was popular at the time, when purchasing a 2600 unit a free Combat cartridge was given with the system. Atari then released a copy of the Space Invaders game cartridge to replace Combat. This made the Atari 2600 the most popular home gaming system. With this, the sales of this home gaming system skyrocketed. For those al ready owning an Atari 2600 unit, were putting their names on store waiting lists because of its popularity stores could not keep enough of them in stock to meet the demands for this popular game craze. From there this game became available for other home video gaming systems Space Invader memorabilia is rare to find. Although pieces are out there, every year they becomes harder to find. Space Invaders Aliens are some times found where least expected, so keep your eyes out for them! |
