What A Long Strange Trip It's Been...

This thread is kind of Harold and Maude-lin, but here goes...

I would consider opening my funeral with Albinoni's "Adagio in G Minor". Those of you who saw Peter Weir's masterpiece film "Gallipoli", starring Mel Gibson (circa 1981), may recall this song.

For me it symbolizes the senselessness of war, the beauty of youth, the naivete of youth, and the betrayal of youth - perhaps one of the saddest pieces of music ever composed:

Albinoni "Adagio in G Minor"

I would follow that with another melancholy piece, albeit a happier, more optimistic and hopeful one..."White Bird", by "It's A Beautiful Day":

Excerpt from "White Bird"

I highly recommend the entire album/CD (an archtype album of the 60's psychedelic era):

Well, the songs do pump me up. I wouldn't mind being a barbie girl and driving a pink Corvette... so hey, why not.. "Barbie Girl" used to be my semi-anthem when I was in high school, I actually played it as a greeting on my voice mail/pager back then, so it suits me.

And I like the Britney song, it should be every girl's anthem, be sexy as you wanna be, be outrageous when you walk in the room, and look damn good in your sexy jeans. It's perfect. If I have to die at least I wanna die looking good in my Frankie B low-rise jeans!

Summoning the Muse by Dead Can Dance.

Sarah_Jayne 03-01-2005 04:00 AM

For Marc's we were allowed two - one going in and one going out. So, it got me thinking about mine. I want 'Everybody Hurts' going in. Yes, it is cliche but it is my faveorite song and anyone that knew me well enough to be at the funeral would take the meaning of the song mixed with knowing my love for R.E.M.

Then on the way out I want them to play 'Fish Heads'. Just because people that knew me would say 'that is SO Sarah'

"Eulogy" by Tool
-------------------

So long.
We wish you well.
You told us how you weren't afraid to die.
Well then, so long.
Don't cry.
Or feel too down.
Not all martyrs see divinity.
But at least you tried.

Will you?
Will you now?
Would you die for me?
Don't you fuckin' lie.

Don't you step out of line.
Don't you fuckin' lie.

You've claimed all this time that you would die for me.
Why then are you so surprised when you hear your own eulogy?

The Kiss - Hooverphonic

Some say because it?s over
We should be sad but that?s not true
?cause death may seem something nasty
But it belongs to me and you

Don?t try to avoid your destiny
Accept this kiss with dignity
In this embrace you?ll find relief
Get rid of all your grief

Some say because it?s over we should be...

I have two tickets for R.E.M in Glasgow, the cancelled gig due to one of the band members being taken to hospital. I'm trying to get rid of them tho, coz they depress me. They have a couple of good songs, the rest are depressing as hell.

Everybody hurts is a classic tho, the played it at the end of my grandpa's funeral!

Sans Pression - Pathnai a Vie

like all my friends who are now 6 feet under :(

On reste vrai.

T'as tes patnais, ta femme, pis tes 2 petits kids
''Know what I'm saying'' - on t'attend, on t'oublie pas
Hold it down !

On reste vrai.

Car tellement on a chill ensemble.

Don't make me get all 'fangirl' on your ass ;) R.E.M. have a song for every mood but it is true that they are a band you tend to either love or hate. Yes, some of their songs are depressing (but then I like The Smiths and early Radiohead too) but then they have albums like Monster and songs like Radio Song, Orange Crush, etc that are almost too upbeat.

Anyway, I was suppose to see them at the fan club gig in London but the same thing happened. R.E.M. have a long history of getting ill on tour. I saw them live for the first time on the Monster tour when Bill's head blew up on tour and Stipe's side split.

Everybody Hurts is a song that honestly stopped my from overdosing one night as a teen. I had heard the song a zillion times but just this once I listened to the words and figured out the song was Pandora's box in audio form. Yes, they let the misery out but in the end there was hope.

one i can think of is 'Ole skool shit' by eazy-e, the track is off the hook... gangsta dresta got a nice verse on it:

"I stare at death right in the face
Contemplate my last day on and everyday base
Cause a nigga neva know when he go
I hope it only takes one shot
Cause I don't wanna die slow
My funeral will be full of my peers
People that neva gave a fuck about me droppin' phoney tears
I hope I'm in the casket face down
So all you muthaphukkaz can kiss my black ass now
And fuck all that cryin' all night
Just be happy that I'm rid of this fucked up life
Yeah, and now you see you can't handle me
I give a shout to Tonel and the Ruthless Phuckin Family"
