Well...considering she won an Oscar and I still think she sucks, I'll take my chances.

That was political correctness non sense.
That movie portrays exactly what is happening in female boxing, and it ain't pretty.

Swank is simply amazing in this movie. As far as acting goes, she is simply one of the best actresses alive now.

And the boxing in this movie really shows how brutal woman's boxing is. Its not as bad as years past when they just went in the ring and wailed on each other with hardly any defense, but its still bam bam.

I have a few on my list for the best movie of the year and yes, this is on that short list. Its been quite awhile that a movie like this comes along that is completely sobering and has ppl leaving the theater in complete silence. However, I won't give any plot lines away. I will say the movie isn't what most think it is. But if you want to go out and go see a truly great movie, this is the one to go to now.

Hi Sickkittens,

Here's my list for best movies of the year released in 2004, and in no particular order:

The Incredibles (fantastically entertaining)

Collateral (gripping, extremely well directed)

Kill Bill Vol. 2 (all I have to say is Pei Mai)

Man On Fire (great movie)

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (brilliant script, concept)

Million Dollar Baby (as I already mentioned)

Spider-Man 2 (simply one of the best superhero movies made so far)

Shrek 2 (lol fare)

last year it was Return Of the King that stood alone and it was greater than anything else by a mile

have yet to see some notables however, like:

The Aviator

Meet the Fockers

Closer

Garden State

*************

but "Million Dollar Baby" easily ranks with the years best, and high up on that list too.

Its not a typical feel-good movie and will certainly take the winds out of your sails upon viewing it, but it sure makes you think..........and the character development has you really caring what happens to these characters and into the movie.

With all the schlock and dreck out there, its great to go to a movie that can really get to you and make you think about things, and play on your mind for days. Isn't that what the greatest movies, such as "Shawshank", are all about?

its true.........no matter how you feel personally and ethically on what transpires in this film, you can't help but be upset by it one way or the other.

how would you rank them this year, Entropy, from top to bottom?

last year it was pretty clear Return of the King was going to slaughter all comers, but this year it sounds like its going to be between Million Dollar Baby and The Aviator in a close race.......

I would rank them in this order..

1. Million Dollar Baby
2. The Aviator
3. Ray
4. Sideways
5. Finding Neverland

I personally think Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind got screwed out of a nomination. Maybe Passion of the Christ too. At the very least, Mel Gibson should have gotten a Best Director nomination. And trust me, I'm far from Christian..
