One of the better movies of the past year.

These were my favorites:

House of Flying Daggers
Hotel Rwanda

For those of you who saw Million Dollar Baby, what was your take on the situation between Eastwood and his daughter that they hinted at the whole movie, but never revealed. Was she dead, or had they had a falling out over some negative incident and she wasn't responding to his letters. Obviously Eastwood felt he needed some level of forgiveness for something that happened in the past between them and I kept feeling like maybe I missed a few lines that shed some light on it.

I don't think she was dead because he always looked guinely disappointed when the letters would come back. Unless he was dillusional.

Yeah, I agree with you, although my wife keeps on insisting that she was dead and he was only sending the letters as some sort of therapy, knowing they would be returned.

Also, if you look at the letters, they have 'Return To Sender' handwritten on them...That leads me to believe that the daughter got them and sent them back...

I"m quite positive she was alive but they just had a major falling out. Thats another reason why Maggie was almost a surrogate daughter for him, and he a surrogate father for her.

Damn great movie.

Don't want to give away the ending, but yes, it was kinda nice having a movie that didn't have the typical hollywood feel good ending.

You have no idea how much I agree...atleast it got best original screenplay. If the Incredibles had won that over Enternal Sunshine I may have kicked in the tv.

I agree. It should have been "ESOTSM" over say, something like "Ray"

Whilst Jamie Foxx was good, Ray was just a bio pic. Without Foxx it was just another film. ESOTSM was still the best film of the year for me..a pure work of art.

Again, I agree with your assertion of Ray and Jamie Foxx, who was also very good in "Collateral" if you haven't seen it.........I also recommend that flick highly.

While I loved ESOTSM as well, I have to agree with the Academy........Million Dollar Baby was the year's best film.........it was an amazing piece of work. It was great to see Eastwood, Swank and Freeman get their due. All in all a pretty good year for movies but not nearly as good as last year. But Million Dollar Baby, thats the viewing experience of the year, although not a pleasant one at times because its a tough film.

Man On Fire (great movie)

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (brilliant script, concept)

Spider-Man 2 (simply one of the best superhero movies made so far)

Shrek 2 (lol fare)

last year it was Return Of the King that stood alone and it was greater than anything else by a mile

have yet to see some notables however, like:

The Aviator

Meet the Fockers

Closer

Garden State

but "Million Dollar Baby" easily ranks with the years best, and high up on that list too.

Funny..I was thinking it was more or less spot on as far as English language goes. I would throw Sideways in and maybe even Team America just for making me crack my ass laughing in a small cinema in London where I was the only woman and the youngest person by about five decades.

I watched it and I loved it. I thought it is a realistic heavy movie. I'm very happy it won for the best picture at the oscars.

I'm not gonna say anything hyberbolic like "this is a crime", but:

The Passion of the Christ
Icon Production; Icon and Newmarket.
2004 (77th)
CINEMATOGRAPHY -- Caleb Deschanel

MAKEUP -- Keith Vanderlaan and Christien Tinsley

MUSIC (Original Score) -- John Debney

These were nominations, the movie didn't win anything. What's up with that?

well i never saw million dolar baby but i really wanna see that shit..
anyway, i'll edit your list with my comments since im not working cuz im in my lazy mode for about a week now....
ok lets begin:

The Incredibles (fantastically entertaining)
Overhyped. I really expected some subtle 'grown up' humour in this movie. I always had a thing against animated flicks targeted on adults AND kids, but i heard so much positive stories about this one that i gave it a try with all my best intentions... but i could barely watch it. Childish, standard unrealistic jokes, it confirmed my hate against these kinda movies even more.

Collateral (gripping, extremely well directed)
I agree with you on this one. Quality of everything was top notch, very good movie.

Kill Bill Vol. 2 (all I have to say is Pei Mai)
A great dissapointment... I expected way more of this tarantino flick. There were some good parts but overall it was too boring.

Man On Fire (great movie)
This was indeed a good movie, i wouldnt say great but good.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (brilliant script, concept)
Never heard of this one.

Million Dollar Baby (as I already mentioned)
Didnt see it yet.

Spider-Man 2 (simply one of the best superhero movies made so far)
Didnt see it yet. Part 1 was so-so, kinda childish especially with that toby macguire as peter parker; hes a sissy. Plus i expected mary jane to be sexier, kirsten dunst or something aint really sexy.

Shrek 2 (lol fare)
My hatred towards animated 'for kids and adults' movies have blown out of proportions after seeing The Incredibles so i dont even think about watching this one.

well thats it for your list, as you can see i didnt see half of the flicks listed but the bad movies i did see made me instantly think that the list sucks ox balls.

Some additions of me, i dont know if theyre all 2004 flicks but i think they are:
Saw - Sick movie, gotta love the plot twists in it.
Dodgeball - Just a hilarious movie to laugh at, very fucking funny. Altho some parts were really corny, its clear these parts were in there to make fun of sport movies

By the way, i liked Alien vs Predator!
