Domain SE Questions

OK, here this goes into detail about domain name:

Is it better to use

pictures or pics
gallery or galleries

in domain?

i didnt get too well of answers from WordTracker, what do you SE guys think would be better in a domain? I know that they dont put 'too' much weight, but im going for all that i can.

Honestly, I'd use whichever keyphrase has less competition... so if "midget transexual pics" has less competition than "midget transexual pictures" I'd go with the former.

However, you can't go wrong making a few sites and optimizing for both variations.

Yeah i was thinking of going with both variations, but i would think instead of 'galleries' the typical user would type in 'gallery' and also instead of pictures they would type in pics.

It would be awesome if someone would chime in with a tool to figure this out. Lack of this knowledge is what makes me an SEO hobbyist instead of an SEO pro.

In terms of Google, it is 100% irrelevant what your domain name is. Length is important, and dashes ('-') get penalised.

For type-in, buy variation domains, and redirect them to your main one.

Is this really true? you see SO many sites on the top pages like teen-girls-fucking.com style domains, long, specific.. always at the top.

What's your source? I've heard that more than 2 hyphens are bad, not simply "hyphens are bad."

Also, perhaps the domain name has no relevance for PR but it could still throw some weight toward a site's "theme."

If I'm on crack, please let me know!

James White, I know this is what you see at the top, but the fact is those people worked hard on SEO for their domain, it could have been anything. I have experience to prove this.

Spentrent, one hyphen = small penalty, two = two small penalties = larger penalty.

PR is a completely different kettle of fish. I recommend you ignore anything written about PR, as this is being phased out. The internal PR is nothing like what is displayed on the toolbar, but everything you read is about the displayed PR, which has nothing to do with your ranking.

Hi all. XAKEP has given away some valuable information.
If you're really going to work hard at SEO, my red hot tip would be to ignore google completely. There's too much crap happening there. A new filter comes out every day and you can go from #1 to #501 overnight.

Pay close attention to MSN.com. The search will be integrated into a lot of new software and getting on there early will pay big rewards.

I gather that the PR on the toolbar is simlpy a logarithmically scaled version of "real PR." I don't understand what you're saying about PR being "phased out." LR is just another weighted "thingy," no? That is still used with PR?

I do agree, i'm trying to not specialize on google, i think there is better rewards in SE for other sites. So what do other SE's like MSN and Yahoo think about hyphens?

I can tell you for a fact that the toolbar PR will be removed eventually.
Currently it is a scaled representation of pagerank at the moment of update, which now happens once every 3+ months. It is now very inaccurate.

The last thing you EVER want to do is purchase high-pr links from a link broker. Google will crush you if you do it. I've had sites completely removed from the database for it. I've seen a huge player get killed for doing it, although now six months on he's slowly coming back.

It's a really good idea to forget about PR.
