Question about server harware upgrade

Im running out of space on my server...so I was thinking to add one more 80 GB drive. Now my question is:
When its time to upload some new content on that server do I need to chose which hard drive I want to upload to or what? Or the server will manage everything and I would not see any difference beside more space?

Can someone tell me more about HD upgrade so I get prepare...

Thanks!

you need to have that drive symlinked inside where you want to add the new content as another folder

if your host knows what they are doing it should all be seamless to you.

If I remember correctly servermatrix is unmanaged, so it would be up to you. Tho with getting the HD from them they may help you out with the initial setup.

No and there is almost no seamless way to do it.

The best thing is to have 1 huge /www/content directory, and keep symlinking this to the newest and biggest harddrive.

If your content exceeds 1 harddrive ( up to 250-300GB )

you should consider a RAID array to increase size further

ICQ: 4930562

PS> The other solution is to create say /www/content/set1-50
and /www/content/set51-99

where 1-50 are hd1 and 51-99 are hd2, 101+ are hd3

or any other logical seperation of data

If your host is worth anything he would have hot swapable drives. So, it can easily be seamless.

All he/you has to do is plug in the new drive, and grant you access to it through ftp. As someone said above, from there you can just symlink it or something.
