Should GFY Verify that Board Members are in the Adult Industry Before they can Join?

This site is now so slow again. There are people that are surfing the site like GFY is the new cool thing for them to go to. I use this board to meet new people from the industry and to keep up to date with all of the latest info. I also meet many people that become affiliates in our program.

Does anyone else besides me think that there should be a screening before they sign up or that we should have to pay membership fee's like juicy had said in aprevious post?

There should be a "General Population" area where we can just spam the fuck out of visitors.

I am not sure if this is done already but the signup email used when someone new is trying to signup should be connected to an active adult domain. this should solve the biggest parts of the problem I could imagine

it would be hard to pre screen everyone because it would probaly keep a good bit of people who are legtimately just starting out off of here.

simple solution would be to do a few things.

1. Only members who register can view the forums
2. You can't register with a free email account. isp only.
3. You have you include what website(s) you own.
4. Whois email address must match registration email address.
5. $1 lifetime payment.

I am talking about the future also. If you are paying for adverstising , you are not paying for surfer traffic.

You seem to be borderline obsessed with spreading the gospel that there are "no new surfers" on GFY - even though in the thread you linked to, you stated you were going to stop bitching about how everyone on GFY is bitching.

Bad day at the office?

Relax. Take it easy. It's just a message board.

How about this:

You must own a domain name, with a site hosted on that name. Whatever the email address is under in a whois search is the email that will be contacted to activte your account.

This way, a surfer probably doesn't know how to reg a name let alone build a page for that name.

I personally don't care about "surfers". I know who the real GFYers and and where to get the info. What do I care?

It is hard to discuss some things knowing that a lot of people here are not webmasters. I belong to a board that you need 2 members to vouche for you before you get access, you must also have proof of ownership of sites before you get in , that is where real biz is done. GFY is a cool place to hang out but real insider stuff is not conducted here , it would be a clusterfuck.

It is kind of annoying when you ask a legitimate biz question and the only replies you get are complete bullshit. I don't know if people are trying to be funny or just crank up their post count.

If you needed to verify what sites you owned gfy would halve in size overnight.

Maybe have a gfy insider forum.

How about giving membership to the established people and then new members by invitation only.

Current members or programs could "sponsor" new members. That way, the established or current members would be responsible for the newcomers they reccomend.

Just a raw idea, someone take it further and iron out the details.

Thanks for the feedback, I had a blast too. And a big thank you to all of the sponsors who made it possible.

So, who's with me on my suggestion?

You must:

own a domain name

have a working site up and running on that address

the admin contact in their whois is sent the activation email

Seems like a great way to screen out the surfers.

There is many flaws with this statement. For once I disagree with you.

This board grew out of an affiliate program. Lensman is always looking for new affiliates to push his program. If someone thats new already has to have a site then how does he learn to build the site?

How can he check if the program he's going to promote is legit or not without access to the board?

It's a double edged sword. But your analogy is to make sure everybody is an adult webmaster already. (that leaves no room for growth)

Many people here started out with free hosts and hanging out on these boards. Today those same people are leaders in the industry.

Yes it sucks having all the surfers lurking about and not being able to discuss real business without all the BS threads, but on the other hand a few of these surfers may be business minded and end up being Lensmans next top affiliate.
