25 million people lost in space

The day you start using K-Meleon is the day you move Firefox to the Recycle bin ;)

I <3 IE

Soon enough Firefox will have just as many vulnerabilities. IE is not a bad browser, it's just the most common/popular thus far, therefore making it the target of exploits etc. Firefox is just a temporary solution to an eternal issue. Hackers don't die, they multiply. For every door that's slammed, 10 windows open.

Apart from the vulnerabilities, IE is just toooooo slow, and it uses far too much RAM and CPU time. I expect IE7 to be a much better though ;)

Opera and Maxthon are better than (or at least as good as) Firefox , I've tried every browser there is ;)
The only thing is you have to pay for the banner-free version of Opera.

Ahh my friend, I use IE and have tabbed browsing. I use Netcaptor www.netcaptor.com <- It's an IE add on, has built in popup blocking, URL blocking, tabbed browsing, auto refresh etc. I've used it for years... it's a great IE enhancer.

firefox will turn into another Opera. yeah firefox is nice fast, etc. but it's barebone, once your start adding on all the require plugins and other junk needed to view webpages you'll have just another IE. if you can remove, flash plugs, explore bar addons, activex, java, vbscripting, etc from IE you'd have firefox.

sooner or later firefox will need MONEY!!! and probably sellout to some company that will try and make a bundle pack with email, browser and online service.

Yep. FF rocks specially if you do a lot of submissions. Many little sites' confirm pages, 404s, and/or popups have toolbar sponsors and other crap.

has tabbed browsing, lots of good plugins, its safer (for the time beeing), its faster, blocks active-x, great inbuilt popup blocker, good bookmark's manager, etc..etc..

Firefox is my favorite "freeware" of 2004 ;)

That's stupid. It is like finding a new traffic source that you know might only last 5 months but will take 2 minutes to set up and take advantage of. Do you a) forget it and leave money on the table or b) take advantage of the better situation that is available while it is available. Personally, I'd prefer not to have to worry about vulnerabilities for another few months (though even than it will be more secure) like I haven't had to worry for the past 6.

Depends alot from your type of site.

I have some mainstream sites from which I get mostly SE traffic and in those Firefox usage is about 2%, while in some adult ones its as big as 15%

What's stupid is freaking out like a newbie surfer and changing browsers every X months. We as web developers, programmers, web site owners, etc etc should be one step above a common surfer and know how to prevent and/or fix any and all types of exploits. I have been on the internet for 10 years and I have only had one browser issue with some dumb toolbar because I decided to install a game I wanted to play, which came with a bunch of crap I didn't need. Other than that, EVERY software in existence is vulnerable in some way. It's just a matter of time before someone or a group people bring it to the surface.

Is it better to keep putting a band aid on a gaping wound or know how to stop injuring yourself? I vote for learning how to manage something that you use everyday, instead of running from the problem.

It's only a matter of time before there's 2000 threads titled "WARNING! NEW FIREFOX EXPLOIT" *open thread* 'I'm not using Firefox anymore, fuckkkkkk that! I'm using (insert trendy new browser) '

These kind of threads make me laugh.

Obviously none of you have ever done software auditing for security vulnerabilities. IE is written badly and there will always be an endless stream of exploits to exploit the endless stream of vulnerabilities found. Nothing can stop this apart from a total re-write of IE which is what Microsoft has promised to do but is too late.

It is not as easy to find security vulnerabilities for Mozilla Firefox compared to IE because it is written better and is continually being audited by the Mozilla community of programmers.

I have two exploits on my hard-drive for IE that are "non-public", i.e. the person who found the vulnerabilities decided not to tell Microsoft or the security community, just trade it within blackhat hacker groups. It doesn't matter if you're totally 100% patched up according to Windows Update, these exploits will always work. This is one of the easiest ways to get into firewalled corporate networks, by e-mailing an employee or your target a link to your site that has the exploit to be infect his machine with a reverse-WWW-Tunnel-Backdoor.

On the other hand I have none for Mozilla Firefox and have not come across any even though there are enough hackers/security auditers trying to find vulnerabilities for it. They are harder to find than IE make no mistake.

Enough said by the probably one person in this thread to actually know what he is talking about.

eh, that's old news (yur slippin) and it's 25 million **downloads** - not users. How many people have downloaded it multiple times? Perhaps multiple times for each pc they own? How many have downloaded it after hearing the hype but didn't break free of IE (took forever to get my wife to switch more-or-less permanently)?

Not sure if I want all the retards using it anyhow.

I'm using Opera and love it. But I've noticed a lot of people don't take into account that there are other browsers in the world besides IE. Ever try to check someone's page that was made just for IE? I hate tables.

FF is right. No matter what browser you're using, someone can exploit it. It's just a matter of time until it's not safe to be online at all on a PC. That's when crackers (ahem) will start cracking into Mac's OS.

sooner or later firefox will need MONEY!!! and probably sellout to some company that will try and make a bundle pack with email, browser and online service.
Barebone is good, you can choose what you want to take up cpu/mem: http://www.mozdev.org/projects/active.html

It's an opensourceproject driven by enthusiasts for free, why would it _need_ money? Yeah, money never hurts and I bet they get quite some donations. For example, for the 1.0release adcampain there was alot of donations.

Certain companies are bundling it, read about some ISP just the other week that did just that. The firefoxcommunity welcomes that, it's good for their biz.
