Question to everyone who rip DVD's.....

don't you need to use DeCSS to remove the DVD's protection before you can rip the video and convert it to a WMV? That is illiegal in the US.

even if the company has granted the clients the right to rip their DVD's, under the current provisions of the DMCA, you can still get sued for circumventing the copyprotection on a DVD.

look at number 2:
http://www.eff.org/IP/DMCA/?f=uninte...sequences.html

here is the actual DMCA law:
http://www.eff.org/IP/DMCA/?f=hr2281...0917_bill.html

can anyone tell me how it's done?

Yo
Step1: Get a copy of dvd shrink (dvdshrink.org)
Step 2: Get Nero
Step3: Copy anything instantly!

Note all the latest dvd ripping commercial programs on the net today are NOT allowed to include protection breaking techniques, it was banned. However, use the above it works great and can compress any size movie.

Sorry bout that, obviously I cant read lol

Everyone and their dog rips the dvd's into the short movies/trailers clips etc. so I assume there is a loophole. I see what u mean though, the content sellers mostly just give u the dvd that the surfer would buy, which I guess would or might have copyright protection. I think that the licence would be a good defence though if you were to get in trouble, maybe ask your supplier.

yeah, but based on the law, it doesn't matter if you have proper licensing, ripping a dvd is still illegal

This is simply not true, This is where you need to talk to a lawyer, but in short:

1. If you OWN the content OR have bought the RIGHTS to the video it is not illegal to short circuit the DeCSS encryption. example, I go out and Talk to the studio, and secure the rights to a DVD (actually a movie), like "Debbie does dallas" or "Gladiator", then I have the right to circumvent the encryption for any purpose described in the licensing agreement.

2. you have the right to make a digital copy of any item you have purchased (including DVD's). Technically it is illegal to copy or decrypt a dvd you have not purchased.

3. 9/10 of all adult dvd's do not have copy protection.. most adult manufactures either don't care enough to use it, aren't smart enough to know how, or it just costs to much to do. plus most adult dvd's do not have regional encoding. Meaning I can play a dvd bought in new york just as well as the dvd i bought in LA. (non adult studio titles have regional encoding)

If you had the rights and built a way to decrypt, rip, and encode this is nothing more then you using the tools you have if you don't have the original source.

anyways.. Al stick to what you know best! Shooting naked women! it suits you better.

I believe what you are saying above is true. One question though is regional coding different than region coding. I am aware of region coding which varies from continents but was not aware of regional coding state to state.

not if you haven't aquired the rights from the producer. I can't walk down to best buy and pick up a dvd to encode it, and resell it. I can pick up a dvd, take it home, encode it for my personal entertainment center.

just download dvd shrink, do a search on google for the url, its free, then download the trial of nero. dvd shrink works really well, do a deep analysis for better quality and burn as slow as possible at say 2x for error free burns.

I haven't come across any adult DVD's that have encryption. If you bought the license for the DVD it doesn't matter anyways, you have the right to rip/re-encode the DVD's without any legalities. This is why the licensed DVD's cost as much as they do...

yes, but the ones with encryption, whether you have rights or not, you can't do it

Well when they are talking about the WIPO treaty, it's only about piracy. When you actually purchase the license to use the DVD, it's not piracy... you bought the right to use it defined by the terms of the license.

That is for people who go and buy the DVD at retail price and resell/copy it without proper authorization.

creating a "backup" of any media you buy for personal use is 100% legal in any country of the world.
