Once again, the USA refuses to act like the rest of the civilized world.

Kyoto global warming pact goes into force today. U.S stays out.

140 contries involved in trying to slow global warning.

Bush and Co. feel that it is too much to ask for U.S Corporations to TRY and stop global warming. Corporate donors get what they paid for in Bush.

the u.s.a. knows its pointless, they are more concerned with an exodus from earth to another planet

If the world completely chnaged the way it worked 10 years ago we MIGHT have had a chance.

I want to destroy everything you've ever known and loved
I seek revenge on society
To destroy all you've ever known
I want revenge on this world
For my crime of being born
This fucking world and life owe me
a lifetime of heartache and pain while you've thrived
and you don't fucking know me
And I'll do all I can to rip your world apart
And I will prove why it was wrong for me to ever be
And I will unleash my vengeance upon thee
I seek revenge on your society
to destroy all you've ever loved
I want revenge on your world
for my crime of being born
For the crime of being born

Seen some of the statements, though sure i can agree that its not realistic for a country like the US, but you have to start somewhere

But its like somebody else said its too much money involved in the top

USA is the world's biggest polluter...

"The US contains 4% of the world's population but produces about 25% of all carbon dioxide emissions. By comparison, Britain emits 3% - about the same as India which has 15 times as many people "

ha, thats really good.

Bush is also trying to do away with colleges so all young people will have to join the military.

Bush killed the NHL season so his big friends in the MLB industry could make more money.

Bush implanted the flu in Michael Jacksons body to make him look guilty so all black people will be afraid to play with their children.

For all the flippant answers... it doesn't change the reality that even though Kyoto is not perfect, it is at least a step in the right direction... and the US govt has firmly planted their feet behind the line which says, "We don't give a fuck about the world or any of our descendents, we just want to line our own pockets now."

hegemony or survival...

In addition to Kyoto, out all all countries who signed the anti-landmine treaty, once again, the US was missing from the table.

Who the fuck can find a case against protecting people from landmines left over by wars which are, on a daily basis, killing children and others? OK.. the US can.

It's ironic that a fair number of these mines were laid by the US - presumably it would cost too many dollars to clean the crap up. A greenback is the motive for living isn't it?? :-)

Who cares about global warming? The rapture is going to happen soon and bring all the true believers up to heaven to hang out with God, and watch the rest of us burn. Why care about the environment when you know that's going to happen during your lifetime?

Seriously that's what these nutcase Christian religious fanatics like Bush actually believe. Google "rapture index".

I think your stats are a bit misleading. You can't compare the US to Britain or even India. Between it's population and the industries located here, no country can compare. Certainly not China or Russia.

Imagine if we did sign this treaty. First, you'd have to replace your current car. No one would buy your current car, and your next car - which is emissions friendly - would cost three times as much.

Then factor in nearly everything you purchase - from the food on your table to the cost of power to run your house - will also go up in price.

It might just bring the US to a standstill.

Where has the US laid mines, other than Korea? If we were to remove mines from Korea we'd have to triple the amount of US troops stationed there.

Not to mention that the newest generation of landmines is highly intelligent and can even be de-activated remotely after the peace has been won.

You are correct about the President not having the power to make treaties...only Congress has the power to do so. Of course the President can make recommendations to Congress. This particular treaty has provisions that are not good for the US and it is the responsibility of duly elected leaders to protect the interests of the US and not of 139 other countries...so they are doing the job that they were elected to do.

Somehow they can find a way to blame President Bush and US for anything wrong in their lives.

Explain how per-capita stats would apply in this matter.

Should the rest of the world pay for it?

This is looked at totally the wrong way. The U.S makes 25% of the worlds emissions, but only have 5% of the worlds population, so everyone always says that they should only make 5% of the worlds emissions.

But that?s the wrong way of looking at it. The U.S makes 25% of the world emissions but makes well over 25% of the world wealth. So if it needs to make more than 25% of the worlds emissions to make more than 25% of the world wealth then that?s ok.

Countries like china and India make far more emissions compared to the amount of wealth they create. For a simple equations of emissions to wealth the U.S are actually doing quite well

has your stupid ass even bothered to read the kyoto plan to know why we rejected it? or do u just like running yer mouth with only 1/2 a story? Kyoto plan is a fucking joke and will barely even make a dent in lowering emissions. It's a miracle most of the people who post here survived birth

We Amercians get it... if we don't choke you with our emissions... we'll kill you with our mines.

What point are you trying to make?
