Alot of sites are being screwed are you one of them??

Hello everyone

Well there are some fuckers who are doing some shitty things to steal alot of traffic. It is unclear how surfers are getting this program installed but we think they are forcing a program from activex to surfers. Any surfers that get this program and visit any of the sites on the list never make it to the site. They just get a bunch of pop ups.
http://www.flashtrack.net/target_urls/adulturls.php are the fuckers doing this...

Just so everyone knows what is happening.

Anyone know how this can be prevented?

I see a lot of freehosts and sponsors url's in the list...damn

so some of our surfers cannot load galleries or paysites

well, does the patch that block the modification of the starting page works for this also?

I know nothing about patches and stuff like that.

I do know this is screwing every single webmaster one way or the other.

I just went to OldTarts from one of my pages
and it took me there and didn't pop anything
other than a flashcash box, I clicked on it and it had my code in it.

Yes, I get a dialer plugin and a console fire if I visit book-mark.net and worldsex.com. They even could show a fullscreen picture with a big asshole on it!

That's well and truly fucked.

Of course there are a lot of sites in there that we all promote, not to mention some good sized TGP's etc.

I'm guessing KK is right. As soon as the big companies get a whiff of this the C&D letters will be flying. The Hun might start swinging his axe and in this case he'd be justified

yup....if my sites would get several hundred of k's, I would for sure begin to hotlink them...until they shut down.

Big boys should do that....

My 2 cents

Maybe they don't care about a bw bill from hell.

This is a situation where legal action is going to win.

It's just plain wrong.

I've talked to a dozen people who have sites on their list and not ONE OF THEM is in there willingly.

It's not unclear. There have been several threads on it here, including one the Hun participated in.

If you'll review this thread http://bbs.gofuckyourself.net/board/...ML/011378.html
you'll see it is about Morpheus, an "Advertising Supported" free download. What all these free programs mean by "Advertising Supported" is additional, hidden, software programs that piggy back on the one the surfer wants. They cause pop ups, redirects, and all sorts of other "advertising opportunities" for the proprietors of the free software to sell.

This is the best quick education: http://www.scumwarelinks.com/

This is good too: http://www.scumware.com/wm7.html

The biggest company pulling this is Gator. Gator calls it "providing the surfer with linking alternatives". It's not against the law, but it does suck.

nice - my pay site and my 2 largest traffic domains are listed - 2 million uniques/day worth.

the whois info looks pretty bogus. traceroute puts them to netaxs.net hosting. does anyone have an idea how large their installed base might be?

Gator and the others have not been busted and have avoided suits because the surfer agrees to the terms and conditions before the download. Everybody always reads the terms and conditions? Right? It is the surfer's computer that's fucked up and they agreed to it.

I just had a call from the owner Neil Weinberg.
He told me that the software is being distrubet along with free programs that can be downloaded on the net and to use the programs they also agree to get this "plugin"
Most of you probably tried downloading something from tucows.com / download.com that also asked something like "would you also install this great free program that yada yada yada" that is how they get it around.
They system is not completely running yet why the order form does not work.
He got a little bit pissed when he found out that I was actually not trying to buy advertising on his site
Basicly people should start bugging him with lawyers NOW before he manage to build up a network and make enough money to have his lawyers stall everything.
Could not see the number from the guy that called me though but it is listed in a whois on his domain

This is already a multi-million dollar industry. There are non-adult webmaster organizations dedicated to fighting it like http://www.wuas.org/ but nobody's come up with a legal stratagy yet.

He said it was surfers own choice to install it so there was nothing wrong with what he was doing. But that is total bullshit he is stealing traffic from our domains fucking asshole
BTW. Do you have a enter popup going to exxxit.com or are they already stealing from your site? I got a nasty chain from them when I entered mature-post.com

BigDaddy,

I don't think it's legal even if people agreed to terms and conditions.

The thing is that visitors think that the shit comes from our sites. They load a dialer plugin for example or they are able to show a banner on your page (maybe illegal stuff). In my case they load a dialer plugin
and it looks like it comes from my site.

So thats the reason why we get the complains not they.

I think you all should quit crying...

There are websites that will translate your website and all your links into Japanese too... Are you going to bitch because they translated your page wrong? Remember this is the internet -- a wild wild place... If you try to control it you will be left behind.

I don't see what the problem is... ?

I can also make a browser that puts my banner at the top of every page on the internet... the horror!

O know. My galleries got blacklisted from a big TGP because I was accused of altering them after they were posted and launching pop ups. I asked the TGP webmaster to review the code on my page and prove for himself there was nothing there. Then I sent him links about scumware. Didn't work. I'm still banned there and I know it happens to gallery makers every day because somehow TGP webmasters have missed this whole thing for the last 12 months.

If you can prove it's not legal, though, you'll be the first.

You are confusing that little active x script that changes homepages and adds bookmarks (it only works on IE 5) with the scumware industry. The active x script is childs play.

No don't think so. I installed the program and then tested in IE and then in Netscape then in IE again to see if it was some sort of cookie based or baed on unique or whatever. Only works in IE. It also say that on their site

The site that started this thread isn't even in business yet. There are hundreds of such companies, some very established, using dozens of different software plug ins. Some launch pop ups. Some take regular text on your page and turn it into a link. Some redirect traffic from your site. Some deliver the surfer to your site but cover up your banners with theirs. None of the major companies are limited by browser type.

Call any of the companies on this blacklist and see if they only got traffic from surfers with IE 5
