My solution to marriage / common law BS

1. Buy 2 houses beside each other

2. Let her move into one

3. Never marry

Can she take half still? I wonder... you're not common law unless you live together, technically, you're not

Plus, if your girlfriend truely loves you, she wouldn't care how things were set up, true?

Haha, well, why not?

I'm sure the people in the dozens and dozens of failed marriages on this forum probably believed they were in love when they got married!

Why not a little creative protection against losing half?

My bet would be you would end up "living" together in one of the houses anyhow. I mean wtf, you going to kick her out of bed every night?

I was married once before and I don't consider it a "failed marriage". It was three years of bliss and it was wonderful; It ended because one of us grew up more than the other.

We still talk and still wonder about the "what if".....

You are probably the only non-bitter divorced person I have ever heard from!

Not sure what state you live in, but certain states do not recognize it until its been 7 years, so if you break up with her for a few weeks, move out, then come back, you could argue that it hasn't been 7 years. OR change your name periodically, then the time restarts too! ;) I dont know, I dont care. As long as he's not trying to take my money, kids, or pets, I dont give a shit if we break up. If your worried about losing your stuff, put it in someone elses name to start with!

Why not get the gready bitch to sign a prenup? much easier, and make sure YOUR lawyer writes it, and she has her OWN lawyer to go over it with her, and get them both to sign it, makes it so she cant back over it saying she didnt understand it.

No, I'm in Canada

What makes me think this way is that you hear SO SO SO many stories of shit like this happening all the time. A guy or girl is in a relationship when things go sour and then WHAM, lawyers' fees out the ass, bitter seperation, the whole 9 yards of divorce hell!

I don't plan on getting married anytime in the next several years, but I'm thinking ahead and planning on protecting myself. I'll let the girlfriend know why I'm doing it and if she's not happy, she can hit the road!

From what I've heard and read, in Canada it means jack shit, you can have a prenup and when divorce happens it's not worth the paper it's printed on

I remember doing a Shaw cable install at someone's house in West Vancouver years ago who told me this, he was taken for a 10 mil ride by his wife who had signed a pre-nup but it held no weight in court. I didn't ask, when I used to do Shaw installs people would tell me their life stories in that time I was at their house...

A pre-nup that didn't held up in court? A signed agreement by two legal entities that didn't held up in court? Sounds like someone fucked up.

If you are not willing to split the goods with the one you set up shop with then you should just set up shop by yourself and fuck whoever happens to pass through
