mainstream affiliate programs, build your own or use commission junction?
i have a friend of mine that is interested in getting an mainstream affiliate program going... he checked out commission junction and like companies but they want a percentage of what the site makes including the cost of building the affiliate for them. Now i do understand that you will be apart of the commission junction network but would it be better doing it all yourself?

its always better to use your own, you keep all the profits and your in control of whats going on, whats selling hot right now is diet plans. Most people just take the south beach diet and make thier own ebook off that. Fuel saver is also doing very well.

There's a bunch of CJ style programs out there. The advantage is you get in front of a bunch of affiliates fast. Try some of these
http://www.shareasale.com http://www.darkblue.com http://www.affiliatefuel.com Most compete with better rates then cj and linkshare |

You can always make a few front ends for the same project and use all of them.
Don't tell em I said that though. ;)

Always good to do both. Other networks have the marketing reach you may lack at first.

the good thing about going with CJ is that they have such a huge network of affiliates already promoting sites it could help you jump start your sales by gettin you a bunch of affiliates quickly..

From an affiliate point of view, programs like CJ can provide you a good base of affiliates with relatively no work. They already have thousands of affiliates who are always looking for new programs so they can introduce your program to them and acquire affiliates relatively easy. Starting one fresh from start is a bit more difficult unless you have contacts to build affiliates already.
In terms of costs, last time I checked CJ charged 20-30% of the lead price + a setup fee. That's not a very high price assuming you don't have the resources to build an affiliate program and deal with affiliate fraud. Of course building your own is usually better in the long run since that's a fixed cost versus an ongoing cost like CJ provides. If it's feasible, I would do both. Start up with CJ since the upfront costs are less and then build your own program to market to your own webmasters. WG

you can shoot me an email at shannon at realbigcash.net . I've got an option similar to CJ where your friend wouldn't need to pay an arm and a leg for affiliate maintenance set-up (but the initial website would at least need to be provided) and which can run in conjuction with his/her own personal affiliate program should he want to set one up in the future.
Yes, they do take a % of sales, but that's how they earn their income and they handle affiliate payments, support, etc. |
