I need a problem solved. Plz help.

Damn, that brings back memories. I rember doing functions in college, but can't remeber how to do them now. If you have AOL, there's a forum there where you can get an answer.

The kids gonna flunk anyway. That problem isn't about the answer, it's about how to draw graphs with descriptions.
The idea is that they describe the points of interest, where the graph changes direction and where it's centered and you draw it. |

i chekced the that geocities website but i did not understand anything... But i guess this one is true too.
Take the deriviative of the equation and then set it to zero. And then take the second deriviative of the equation and set it to 1. And take the third deriviative and set it -1. This way you will have 3 equations and simply solve all oof them and then you will get the answers... ------------------ slutcash- High quality free content, bannerless free hosting, pays ontime everytime and exclusive banners!!! |

f(x)=ax^3+bx^2+cx+d
f'(x)=3ax^2+2bx+c f''(x)=6ax+2 Local Extreme (0/3): 0 = 3ax^2 + 2bx + c 0 = c POI ( 1/-1): 0 = 6ax + 2 -1 = 6a + 2 -3 = 6a a = -0.5 P(0/3): 3 = ax^3+bx^2+cx+d 3 = d Now, insert all variables to get b using the POI: -1=ax^3+bx^2+cx+d -1 = -0.5x^3 + bx^2 + 3 x = 1 -1 = -0.5 + b + 3 -3.5 = b Complete graph: f(x) = -0.5x^3 - 3.5x^2 + 3 Just trying to see if this is correct: f'(x) = -1.5x^2 - 7x 0 = -1.5x^2 - 7x 0 = x*(-1.5x -7) x1 = 0 correct x2 = 4.6 Oh, this is fun ![]() ------------------ Current Special: TGP POSTER SPECIAL. 1)take the first deriviative
3ax^2+2bx+c=0 You will need to plug .3 to the equation. .27a+.6b+c=0 (first equation) 2)Then take the second deriviative. 6ax+2b=0 Plug -1 for this. -6a+2b=0 (second equation) 3)plug the 1 to the second deriviative 6a+2b=0 Then you should be able to grab the answers out of three equations... |

I have a tough problem to coming up, that's 50% of my grade on my exam. If anyone can help me out, I'd appreciate it.
If Gary started with 5 goats and bought 10 goats a month, stole 4 goats per month, then breeded another 6 per month, THEN he had to give away 2 per month for the winners in his webmaster program. How many goats would he have in a years time ?? |

hey Za Ha,
if the extreme is at (0.3), i believe it will have infinite number of results and i can find you one that will satisfy the conditions. if you have mistyped and it was (0,3) instead, then it will have only one result, that i can find it too. let me know |

Thanx everyone but you were all wrong
![]() The correct answer is as follows: y'=0 and therefore c=0 then you plug in (0,3) into your y and get d=3 Then you take y" and you get a=2b/6 and you find out what a is then you plug it back in and get your b. I didnt figure that out yet cause I just wanted to post a reply. Thanks for everyone that helped me get to this. And have a nice day. |
