Speed reading? Photo reading?

Anyone try any of these speed reading or as this one informercial calls it, "Photo reading" lessons? I don't care if I'm not able to just whip my finger over a page and absorb it all, but it would be nice to give a significant boost to my reading and comprehension speed. Especially with reading being the main way of taking in information online. If any of these speed reading programs actually work or not (considering you gave it a fair chance and really worked at it) I'd love to hear about it.

I bought a Speed Reading book off Amazon. I read and did the accompanying excercises to the first 8 of 27 total Chapters. I'm a pretty efficient reader, but the techniques in those first chapters increased my top reading speed by 30-40%. Someday I'll go farther into it, and I have no doubt that it can continue to keep speeding me up. It's not easy, it takes practice just like anything else, but you can read a lot more in the end.

Another note, speed reading is a different style of reading altogether. Reading like you do now will still most likely be your default reading speed. And speed reading works best on very fluid information, and information with which you are familiar. If your reading something that you would normally struggle with, speed reading is not going to make it faster or easier.

I don't know if I answered your questions or not, but I would really suggest that everyone look into this. Information is our industry, and the way of the world. Finding ways to take in and interpret that information faster and more efficiently can't hurt.

Back in the mid 70's when I was in elementary school they taught us how to speed read using the Evelyn Wood's speed reading program.
Mainly you learn how to skim for vital information...been a long time and I don't remember all of the lessons but when I was a kid I read the shit out of books.
They used to have those programs at the library during summer like read 10 books and you get a prize...read another 10 get another prize etc.
I would finish the entire program like within a week. The librarian would ask to speak with my parents to confirm I actually read the damn things...LOL.

But now I just look at dirty pictures on the net...don't need to know how to read

I think this is the book I bought, not 100%. The best thing to do is just search through Amazon for a couple minutes, and read several of the reviews. Find something that fits you.

I'm not a big reader, but I did become an Amazon.com addict for a couple months earlier this year. You can find books on just about anything there.

Great info! My main concern was wether or not it was all a sham, but from the sounds of it, it's very possible and actually works.

That's what I want to strive for is to be able to skim past the drivel and nail down the pertinant info faster and it sounds like that book will help with that.

Yeah, it's nothing magical, but with practice it really can help you cover more ground.

It helps you understand how your eyes work, how your brain makes assumptions, how languages are structured, etc. Basically it teaches you all the things you might not have understood in 1st grade, when you originally learned to read.
