okay.. getting webpages turning up with certain text like "home" with hypertext links to advertising / websites on any page I look at. I think it was a microsoft upgrade that allowed them to put a program in explorer that allows advertisers to do this.

any suggestions to getting rid of these pesky hypertext randomly found on any page with text??

Have you tried uninstalling the update and testing out your theory?

Does it occur with Mozilla or merely with Ieeeeeeeeeeeee?

(I have given up on keeping up with Microsoft's little drama, as it seems every time I get 'up to date' there soap opera adds a new character, being a bigger and more severe problem.)

However, I am always up for a challange.

I tried it out on another computer but the lnk isnt there. it doesnt occur on any other software. I was actually a court case against microsoft a few years back where they intensionally added hypertext to certain words that matched what advertisers paid in order to draw hits.

AdAware should take care of it. If it doesn't, try Spybot - Search & Destroy.

If you're talking about code to put on YOUR pages to keep this from happening, I *think* that adding the following meta tag to your header will do it ...

<meta name="MSSmartTagsPreventParsing" content="TRUE">

I am not developing webpages, this is a IE problem that was an old issue, wondered if anyone remembered it.

Just spyware, not microsoft who does this..Get some good spyware remover...

After that use www.mozilla.org

I do appreciate that, I have tried adware and spyremover first before coming here with this and neither can get rid of it. damn.

maybe I will remove IE then reinstall another version - I do have to have this version to test our websites out in various formats

IE6, but its on my computer that has windows XP, I havent added any upgrades for a while since I remember that scare about the new service pack shutting down any XP units

appreciate it, I have several spyware removers on all my systems at home, and the problem still comes up. doesnt anyone remember a while back when mircosoft had gotten into trouble for adding a hidden program to their service pack and explorer that automatically changed some text around to include hyperlinks to websites who paid advertising dollars to make it happen??

dont bother with adaware etc, they're patchy.

If it's scumware, it has nothing to do with adware/spyware so removers won't help you.

It was something Microsoft did...you can stop people from seeing it on your page with javascript or meta tag (like mentioned above), but otherwise you would see it. I think the only way to get rid of it is to upgrade to the latest versions (since they stopped doing it), or use another browser.
