Discussion - When all the TLDs are taken.

As some of you know, the Internet has grown exponentially in the past couple years. I remember in around 96-97 pretty much every domain I thought of was available. The only ones that were taken were the big one-worders.
Nowadays, as I'm sure all you have seen, it's hard to even think up a decent domain and actually find it unregistered.

The Internet is growing RAPIDLY - some say it's already grown and it's all downhill from here (and I can see their point) so one day, who knows when, all of the domains will be registered. Assume the same fate for .com's, .net's and .org's.

What happens when all the TLDs are taken? It's going to happen, there are only so many combinations of words you can have. Even less that would make sense at all, and wouldn't just be spider-food.

Assume that people will not be buying from current owners - what TLD will be next? It's hard to imagine anything will replace .com, and if it does, it would seem that only businesses with a .com will have the trust of consumers.

Though domains are being deleted every day, it will never make up for the amount of domains being registered that same day.

What do you think? Where is the Internet headed?

Pointless thread.

There are already .biz or .info domains and no serious company is using them as their primary domain.

Tough to tell. Some say in two years, China will have the biggest web users worldwide. They seem to favor .com and .net, but aren't against using their own country code extensions.

Other countries like Germany seem to have a lot of businesses operating under their country code. CHAT.DE just sold last week for 360,000 Euros ($470,848 USD).

Place your bets.
