What's the purpose of a service like UltraDNS ?

the managed DNS service... I'm not getting what it actually does. I mean what can they provide that your hosting companies' DNS doesn't? Anyone know/have experience with them?

you can edit your dns info yourself
also i imagine some hosts don't provide dns service and this eliminates you having to run your own dns on your box |

Ill tell you what I use it for.. I assigned a DNS name to my network at home so when Im on the road and want to connect at home network I dont have to worry about what the IP's are to my network, cause my internet provider changes every once in awhile..I just use the name assinged to it.
ex: ill connect to my machine using ''laptop.dns.info'' intead of 27.247.121.4 I assing diferent names to all my machines.
