I like to think I listen to all types of music and can generally try and appreciate most. My roots are in punk/metal/hardcore etc. and I have not yet ever had a girlfriend with the same music taste. I tend to end up being friends with girls I meet at gigs.

I really dont think it is important for a relationship. I enjoyed sharing some tunes with my last ex and finding out she liked some of my stuff.

Me and my X-girl used to both LOVE house music but we liked different D.J.'s with totally different styles. We never just chilled out listening to music together, and if you're a music lover this is a very important connection to have with a person who you're in a relationship with. I also know for a fact that I would never go out with a girl who loved ghetto thug rap and no other kinds of music because this is very close minded IMHO, no chance in hell. But I might hit it a few times, that's it though

I enjoy everything except for modern country music. I can listen to Beethoven or Wagner and then listen to Slayer or DMX on the next track. Jazz is awesome, I love Spiro Gyra and blues is hot, the old stuff, Duke Ellington, Count Basie etc. I can listen to old country sometimes as that's what I was raised on. Johnny Cash, Willy Nelson, Hank Williams Jr., George Jones...

...my wife puts in an Alan Jackson CD and it makes me want to break shit. But then she hates hardcore metal so we keep our distances from each other when we want to listen to those 2 genres. It's no biggie. In a relationship the biggest thing you have to learn is tolerance and respect for each others tastes and likings.

I would say it is the least important factor in a relationship.

It helps but its not a requirement, except if your GF or you are in a band or are die-hard fans of a specific genre/band that "colides" with your significant other tastes ;)

I think it really depends on how into music the two people are. Some people just like something they can dance to, or background music... and they're not picky. Some people are really into their music, listen to it quite a bit, and/or are irritated by corporate music (like me). I can enjoy a girl's company if she doesn't share my taste in music, but if she wasn't open minded to my music and didn't refrain from playing too much corporate music around me, it would probably, at the very least, put a strain on the relationship.

I think it is important. Music is a language all of it's own, a language of the soul.

Unless music is your passion in life, I wouldn't give it a second thought. I hate the fact that mainstream America has taken something as simple and enjoyable as music, and demands that it negates nearly every aspect of your either gangsta, wigger, preppy, or smelly metal head lifestyle.

It doesn't matter to me in the least, as long as she doesn't put any of HER shit on when I'm around.

It doesn't really matter to me, though now that I think about it... most everyone that I consider a friend has some music link to me. I like a lot of music they don't, and vice-versa, but at the same time we have a music root in that we can go to various concerts/shows together. I think knowing someone's music interest can tell you a lot about someone, though it certainly isn't an end-all.

Everyone that listens to Manson isn't dark and deep. Everyone that listens to RATM isn't anti-corporation and government. I'm a huge fan of both and I don't consider myself dark or anti-corporate.

I listen to mainstream pop and Black Metal with sewer production. I don't see how some people can stay loyal to one genre of music.

It's not that important but it doesn't hurt. I wouldn't want to be dragged to a horrible concert.

afraid it is important to me but not as important as them atleast shairing the same passion for music as me...regardless of what type they are into. The level at which I am into music would just annoy someone that didn't also have that passion. From experience, i really do need a punk or metal guy or I don't click. Though, those types of music do denote a certain personality choice too.

Yea I hear ya...I think I've only known one chick that has known who Lagwagon was...

But I don't think that it would make much of a difference, as long as they don't have a problem with punk, I'm all cool.
