BUT Thailand still need tourists. They live of tourists.
Billions and billions are floating into the country, but all those money are used for rebuilding the infrastructure, buildings, medicare and all that. The money is not for individuals. People live off tourists, so if there's no tourists coming, people will not survive.

We may think that it's wrong to go to Thailand right now, but I think most Thais that live of tourists doesn't share that view.

this picture was going around the globe. Its a very good example on how media can trick you to believe what they want.

The guy on the left is Swiss, the one on the right is from England. After the Tsunami they stayed in Thailand to help the local people cleaning up everything. The picture was taken in a work break when a thai local brought them some beer as we was so thankful for their help.

Now thats the truth. Dont believe everything you see ... especially if you dont know the context.

On a serious note, I understand both points but for me personally I would change my vacation so that I would still be going to the region but I would go lend a hand and try and make some small difference. I am certain I would feel much more gratified helping out than sitting on a beach in my speedo drinking a beer.

however, i saw on NBC news that the local restaurants, hotels, tour guides (etc) are BEGGING for tourists to come back....they cannot work, they have no customers, and people are being laid off from their jobs because there is nobody to serve

Good grief!! Somehow I don't think I'd want to be taking a vacation there right now - non-refundable tickets or not! I don't think it would be the sort of vacation experience you'd really want to have.

I think you are all mistaking. On the picture where the lady collects garbage, the thing that you should all see is how one person ( probably volauntary) helps, while the other lays down and takes a sun bath. The old dude is the one that is to be blamed for acting stupid. And dont say he's doing the right thing by spending his money and creating work place. If he wanted to help he should have donated whatever he had and get the hell out of there. Not mentioning the fact that the countries affected by the tsunami face food and starvation problems......\
