AMD Durons?

Are these things any good? I hear they do outstanding in benchmarks but how are they compatible with win2k and other MS software?

Any problems for you video encoders with Durons?'

Thanks!

Durons are cool.... nothin' wrong with 'em, but I would spend the extra couple bucks and get the bigger Athlons...

Yup, I agree with Amp.

T-Bird are so cheap right now, it doesn't pay off to get a Duron anymore.

For some reason, the only servers we have HW problems with are AMDs. Go figure.

As far as problems go, I guess it's been pretty even for me at about 50/50 between AMDs and Intel... so I couldn't really say if it's been attributed to the cpu or not... I did have one Athlon 1Ghz cpu take a crap on me about a year ago. But I'm still using virtually all Athlons here, two Durons and only one Pentium.

Yeah, switch operating systems because of a processor, LOL.

Every time we try AMD, we have problems. We're only buying 100% Intel now.

AMD 1.2Ghz and higher with 266Mhz is da best for desktop
but for servers: PIII-850-1000 still is the best choice, dual is great thing if u run lotsa scripts.
btw nt servers r not so bad, most problems r coming from iis and lack of good remote administration

AMD Processors are good for servers Especially the Dual Amd processors and they are faster then Intel

Lens

I know you run windows and i dont expect you to switch from the Wintel monopoly after all it is what big buisness wants paying for Site licenses and shit Big bucks bet its a great tax right off to pay for NT server on all your servers

The real issue with the AMD chips is heat. I'll bet you had a meltdown due to a fan failure, but that's just a swag on my part.

There's been a lot written about AMD's melting down if the fans die unlike the Intel chips that will apparently not turn into a heap of slag. This is good in a server

Nope on the fan failure... checked it.. popped in a new cpu and still using the same heatsink and fan, and no troubles...
