How can all four men cross the bridge in 17 minutes?

man 1 and man 2 walk across together. this is 2 minutes
man 2 walks back alone with flashlight, we are at 4 minutes now
man 3 and man 4 walk across together, upto 14 mins now
man 1 comes back alone with flashlight, 15 mins
man 1 and 2 go across, upto 17 mins

total: 17 minutes

At first I kept getting stuck at 19 minutes, by sending man 1 and 4 across as step 1..but with a bit of trying diff combinations, I got it
