What kills you is a physical condition called AIDS.
When you have AIDS, your immune system weakens and can't fight other viruses/bacteria anymore. That's what kills you - nummerous opportunistic infections (like pneumonia).

HIV Doesnt kill you...HIV breaks down your immune system and leaves you suspectible to anything/everything.

HIV breaks down your immune system...leading to a deficiency in your immune system.

Now, ANYTHING which creates a great enough deficiency in your immune system could lead you to have "AIDS". HIV is just the leading cause of such a thing.

It isn't either or which kills you. When a virus or bacteria enters your system while you have AIDS it goes rampant as you have no immune system to fight it off.
