Anyone checking out the HD DVD's in Vegas?

http://www.pcworld.com/news/article/0,aid,119135,00.asp

Comdex is dead, long live CES: Las Vegas will be packed this week with products ranging from humungous TVs to home entertainment servers, smart cars, portable music and video players, and wireless devices. The 2005 International Consumer Electronics Show will draw over 120,000 attendees and more than 2400 exhibitors. Only the massive CeBIT show in Germany exceeds the sheer volume of attendees, exhibitors, and announcements expected at the 2005 CES show, which opens Thursday and runs through Sunday.
All the names you'd expect will be at CES--computer giants Microsoft, Intel, and Hewlett Packard--exhibiting side by side with such major names in consumer electronics as Sony, Panasonic, and Pioneer. Those companies and hundreds more will vie for the attention--and compete to capture the imagination--of the attendees in hopes of securing some of the consumer electronics industry's $101 billion in expected revenue.

Is CES open to the public? If so, I'll go.

Bill Gates is opening it tonight. I was going tonight but no babysitter so will miss seeing The Bill as well as about 3 Internext parties

Not open to public. Officially you need a company name and business card/letterhead to get in. Floor only pass is $75.

This will be my first CES. It is open til Sunday I think. The last day is good because you can sometimes sweet talk exhibitors into parting with unreleased products real cheap so they don't have to ship them back.

My buddy got a plasma TV in 2001 for $4,000 which was easily worth $20,000 back then and wasn't even on the market until several months later.
