blu and HD, there were a few others but i think they all gave up. they've packed around 23 gigs of data onto a blu ray disk from what i've heard, the HD format doesn't stand a chance.

I thought all the major film companies except for sony said they where going to release films in HD DVD and not Blu Ray.

god i can't wait for hd dvd, todays dvds look so shitty on a nice HD TV

i figure by the time dual layer media comes down in price, we will see the release of the HD DVD. By releasing an HD DVD without a recordable disk the same size, they keep everyone from making one to one copies of the best available

The competing method is Toshiba's HD method. I am fairly certain SONY will stick to its system while theToshiba method will spread more quickly.

Seriously its tough to say which will rise to dominance, I am not to impressed with SONY's HDV CAM even if it does 1080i it lacks diversity.

All ya need worry about for 2005 is 720p and all should be fine.

they should be able to do 720p or 1080i with 15 gigs of space

i have a feeling this will become the standard, sony lost in the betamax / vhs battle and I think they are about to lose again.

SONYalways over steps technology boundaries and BLueRay is really no acception. Barely any HD televisions perform at the true 1080i specification let alone at this time incapable of recieving true HD at the 1080i spec.

Most Movie producers I believe will embrace the 720p standard for HD DVD for production for 1 reason alone. Its less bulky in size with digital storage from a production stand point.

SO basically I am saying BlueRay is overkill for the current technologies availablility to the consumer end.

I think 2005 people will see Microsoft forge an alliance with Hollywood and the digital divide will close between Redmond and Hollywood sealing the fate of BLueRay to faulter.

Ya might wonder how Redmond plays into this and it goes with a riddle I have said many times before.

"Godzilla will fall from the BLueRay."
I've mentioned this many times its rather non sensical but it will make sense.

Anyways back to Redmond, Bill gates knows the value of cheaper and most all of your CRT's have superior picture quality over a Widescreen TV. Infact you will experience HD on your PC in better quality most likely before experiencing it on a television barring the fact you might own a plasma.

PC's are 1 step away from being the prime entertainment system of households and Bill gates will lock down HD with Toshiba and its Venders, DVD drives at Fry's are more available than a full game system or a set top HD DVD player when all you will need to do is hook up your PC with a new HD DVD Drive that will be available soon. See...

Sony does not have the strength in distribution to push its technology to multiple levels like Redmond does when coupled with a cheaper standard than Toshiba and all its venders tied into the PC market place.
