Ways to save money in Vegas?

There are a lot of us new webmasters attending InterNext for the first time that are not pulling in the big bucks like some.

I know that Vegas can get expensive. What are some ways to save money?

Right now I'm bringing my own snacks for my room and my own bottled water so I don't have to use room service.

Any money saving tips will help.

Vegas isn't a town to be going if you are going to be a cheapass.

But anyway, I digress....I can help you. In the mornings, go down to the nickle machines and play. You'll probably go through about 5 bucks an hour if you are lucky. While you are playing, you will have free alcoholic beverages. Last year, I was playing for a few minutes and some comp lady gave me like 10 free lunch passes (10 dollar value each). I didn't wind up using any but a cheapass like you would then have free lunch everyday while you are there.

Head down to one of the Station casinos and find a nice local woman who will invite you to stay at her trailer for the week so you don't have to shell out cash for a room a Mandalay.

I would just stay home then . Casinos , Girls, Food, etc. They all are expensive. You have to spend money to make money. It will pay off in the end.

don't listen to most of these guys...they'll be playing $1 blackjack and pretending they have black chips on the table instead of silver ;-)

as a confirmed cheapskate, I can tell you how to save money in Vegas:
- Collect funbooks, they often have 2 for 1 meals and sometimes free buffets, etc.
(beware of ultracheap buffets though as they are generally low quality).
- A block or so off the strip are plenty of "locals" casinos with breakfast specials
- Downtown at Binion's Horseshoe, after midnight, they have a $3.95 tbone steak and eggs and it's damn good
- Hit the various 99 cent stores on the strip for snacks and goodies (sorry, no matter how much money I make, I'm not paying $3 for a fucking soda in the hotel)
- Fuck gambling, it's for weakminded fools who help build these biillion dollar casinos...but if you must throw away your money, hit the nickle slots closest to the bar (for the free drinks).
- If you're playing blackjack, grab a funbook as they often have 2 for 1 bucks, etc. If a casino is going to give you one free match on your bet, take it
- The local casinos are also good for low stakes gambling and are friendlier with drinks and helping you out if you're a gambling newbie. They also tend to have better drink specials (it's the same beer, why pay $4 when you can get it for $1 at another place?)
- Most of the parties have free alcohol, food, etc.
- If you're in a pinch for a hotel room for 3-4 days, there are weekly apartments off the strip that are about $150 per week, but be carefully as some of these can be full of bad elements (though probably not as bad as adult webmasters ;-)))

remember, when people are gambling, it's either for entertainment or to show off...decide what you're gambling for...if it's for entertainment, budget yourself and stick with it. Be careful of drinking too much while gambling and avoid ATM's on the casino floors if absolutely necessary as they charge higher fees. Only take with you what you have budgeted to lose. While the story of people losing their house and car in Vegas are far fetched, stories of people emptying their checking/savings account are actually quite common.

I wish I could help ya because I have been there before. However, when we do these shows we always spend coin. It's just how you have to roll in Vegas. My advice is to not miss any of the free food opportunities that sponsors provide!

Dude, I'd stay home and save your money and wait til you can come and enjoy yourself. Give it another year or two. If you're bringing bottled water to save money I don't think you're going to have much fun in Las Vegas.

yeah, but people can still enjoy themselves without throwing away their money on the blackjack tables and just throwing around money for the sake of throwing around money...
maybe he'll make a few contacts at the show that will help him to upagrade his next trip to Vegas by doing a little more business...

I agree
I remember my first show....it was in Montreal in 98. I stayed at a Comfort Inn, packed sandwiches/sodas to take with me and did everything very much on the cheap (and not just to be a cheapskate ;-))

I think that Las Vegas can be very cheap if you plan right. You can stay at the Horeshoe for $25 a night and eat a $3.95 T-Bone dinner that SykkBoy mentioned.

My advice would be to pack anything you might need. A dollar spent at home packing can save you $10 in Sin City.

Just because there are expensive tempations around doesn't mean you have to lose your mind.

You don't need to spend a lot of money to have a lot of fun. Best time I ever had was when me and 8 friends went to Florida for spring break and shared a ratty hotel room.

Hey!!! I'm not living in poverty. I have a great job, a few gold cards - zero balance, lots of money socked away in a 401K, and money coming in on the side from my adult websites.

I'm a saver by nature. I saved $30,000 to put down on my house in under a year. When I close I want to put as much down as I can. If I can save a dime on this trip then that's an extra dime off my mortgage.

Just because I sneak popcorn and soda into the theater doesn't mean I won't enjoy the movie.

Since I live here, I dont have travel or hotel expenses. Got plenty of food at home so I wont be eating out. I dont gamble so thats not a problem either. Got a free internext pass from AFF. So, I'll be going to the show and not spending a dime.

The best way to save money in Vegas is DO NOT get married. Just because you can get a license and the people at the Little Chapel of Flowers are very nice, DO NOT do it. Been there, done that, she even kept the fucking t-shirt.

I think the best thing to do to save money in vegas is simply not going there

Just because I sneak popcorn and soda into the theater doesn't mean I won't enjoy the movie.
I was hoping I would see this post.

Saving money is a little different than what you're talking about. You're just being cheap, which is okay.

But, you're losing out on part of the Vegas experience, which is the wonderful restaurants, the shows, if you have time....

I'm not saying you have to gamble thousands...we don't. We're more interested in seeing our friends, networking....etc. We rarely have time to gamble.

To truly enjoy Vegas, you have to spend a little bit. I can understand the bottled water and snack thing. They ARE offensively expensive....

You'll make your mortgage. Relax and enjoy.

Eat and drink off the sponsor parties, don't gamble unless it's someone elses money ;)
