Do NFL Coaches Get Paid To Much?
Jesus, Nick Saban just signed to coach the Miami Dolphins for $25 Million over 5 years.
I think that's overkill just to rah rah rah a team.

That may be much yes, but they deal with a lot of shit and have a ton of pressure.
But then again, they have a fuckload of coaches working under them. Hard to say really.

They do a lot more than rah rah a team.
Have you ever seen an NFL playbook? Let alone dealing with multimillion dollar "franchise" atheletes and make the brand marketable again? Saban has to build a team from the ground up with an aging defense and an offense that is a joke. The coach of my college gets 2+ million per season and 100k per year in bonuses not to mention what he gets for making it to the Big 12 championship game/bowl games/national title game and his odd appearences. Plus i'm pretty sure he gets hand shakes from alumni as well. |

hell no that isnt overpaid, the NFL has so much hype and pressure on the coaches especially, they are there to deal with multi million dollar franchises, the franchises make so much money why wouldnt they put the $ up for a quality coach that can get them into the playoffs and make even more?

You can't say that coaches are overpaid without saying everyone in the NFL is overpaid.
When you look at the amount of influence a coach/general manager has over whether a team wins or loses (and winning=money) and compare their salaries to the salaries of the players....no way they're overpaid. Of course SOME of them are overpaid. There's plenty of guys making millions whose teams are perrenial losers....but coaches in general aren't overpaid.

But when you compare what the coach makes to the amount of revenue an NFL franchise takes in on a monthly basis....and the difference in revenue between winning and losing teams....they get their fair cut of the pie. ![]()

there is so much $ floating around in the NFL, from stands to merchandise the owners roll in major loot. why not spend $5000 000 its like a drop in a can to them. miami is in need of re building, its not easy to re build a NFL team. |

As long as you've got great players I think any coach can do the job effectively. But if you have a shitty team all the coaching in the world doesn't matter, with a few exceptions.

When asked who he thought the best coaches out there were, he said Bill Bellicheck and Bill Cowher...and then he said that "you would think those teams had the best personnel in the league but they don't.....far from it" Those coaches win without alot of the "marquee players" that people value so highly....because they get the most out of the players they have and they know how to pick players that fit their system well. There are alot of teams with alot of big name players that don't win very many games.....and the players do get the lion's share of the money.

If the coach can make a big difference then its the wisest investment you can make. A great head coach can help your team more than one great player- and the coach will always have a lower salary.

the only coaches that are overpaid are the ones that constantly lose no matter where they go but still get jobs. Look at Buddy Ryan. He was a great defensive coordinator and so he got a head coaching job and sucked so they fired him. He ended up getting 2-3 more jobs and everywhere he went the players hated him, didn't want to play for him and the team lost. You don't see a whole lot of that anymore these days but still from time to time.
Of all the major sports the NFL players would be the most "underpaid ". There are a few guys that make 10 million a year, but the contracts aren't guaranteed. So if you sign a 10 year contract worth 10mil a year, two years later they can cut you and not have to pay you another dime. With the salary cap that football has the teams make money hand over fist and the players only get a small piece of it. The NFL is by far the largest, most successful sport in the US, but still has the lowest average salary for players. That's why the players try to get as big a signing bonus as they can. They may seem overpaid, but when you look at a sport like baseball you get relief pitchers that will only pitch 60-70 innings ( the equvilent of 7-9 full games a year out of 162 ) and they regularly get 5-7 million a year. Baseball players, if i had to pick one, are the most overpaid athletes around. |
