We have a State Of Emergecy

This is insane. Just woke up to over 18 inches of snow outside. I got woken up by my neigherbor pounding on my door, to tell me we were all locked inside. (I Live In A Condo) The door downstairs is frozen shut. I tried deicer and a hammer, and still couldn't get it open LOL. A couple people that heard us banging came out and when they found out we were all locked in, they started panicing and said to call 911. Crazy.

News said it's a "level 3" and they just issued a State Of Emergecy, which means no vehicles are allowed on the roads except for emergecy vehicles. I've lived here for 23 years and have never seen a snow storm this bad.

Here's pics from yesterday.. I'll post some from today when I can get out of my house LOL

There is no window to go out LOL. Also, I thought about the hairdryer thing, but there isnt a outlet close enough, and I don't have a long enough extension cord.

I'm watching the news, they say that %70 of a county above me is without power.

They keep saying on tv "It's against the law to drive on the roads right now, if caught, you can be arrested"

Insane...

being arrested for driving in the snow? hah

what cop would want to pull you over and then get out of his warm police car and actually give you a ticket?

No offense but ....yyyeeaahhhh... that midwest storm should be just the ticket to keep some of the in-laws from making this stupid last minute trip down here for x-mas! Four less people to deal with!

Stay safe... and stay warm

It was funny because I was just in Green Bay for the last couple of days and they had minimal snow and the roads were actually BARE, but yet there were cars going off the road everywhere, it was crazy.

I guess it was their first real snowfall of the year which is always the worst, but when the roads are bare, that's just stupid.

No windows? Weird. In any case, I would suggest you prep for losing power. Might not happen but if it does you could be in a bind. For example, find your flashlights, batteries, candles and matches. Even with a gas furnace, if it uses electric blowers, you could be without heat. Do you have other gas appliances that could provide heat in a pinch, e.g. a gas stove? If you do lose heat, remember to keep some water running so your pipes don't freeze.

If the door that's frozen shut is a metal storm door, heat should conduct through it pretty well, and one way of transferring heat to it (since a hair dryer is out) would be to boil pots of water, slowly pour around the frozen sections, mop up the poured water, and repeat.

Good luck!

Having been in a bunch of storms like that myself, I think they're fun to watch IF you don't have to go anywhere, are warm, and have plenty of food and other necessities.

hmmm

you should save your 911 calls for REAL emergencies. being locked in a house with heat/elctricity/food and running water hardly seems to be 911 worthy when the switchboards are overloaded with real calls.
