Help me with my Resume!

Hey guys, I know this is not the board for such posts but I was wondering if any of you, especially if you own a company and are in charge of hiring people can help me tweak my resume.

I've been applying for jobs lately and getting no feedback. I had some guy take a look at it and have been told it's too "dry".

Any way I can edit up this resume to make it stand out more and make it a winner? Thanks for anyone who can help out!

Basically, just expand on what you have and use power words to drive home the message that you are fully capable of the tasks you have been assigned and that you are eager to continually develop your understanding of new technologies.

Thats the best i could come up with at such short notice but im sure youll agree it sounds a lot more interesting than what you had to start with ;)

When we hire individuals as a company my main focus when looking of resumes is to see firstly, how well written the individual is, followed by the basic skill sets they have available. If you can peak my interest in a specific topic or, make me look at it twice, the chances are you will be the one who gets a follow-up instead of a person who just sends me a resume full of generic information.

Regards,

Lee

Oh and one other thing.

When we get a resume sent to us, if it doesnt have at least 3 pages of information and a coversheet, it doesnt even get looked at.

If it has more than 4 pages in total [including the coversheet] it doesnt get looked at either.

To few pages = Not enough experience.

To many pages = Not able to hold a job down for longer than a year.

Regards,

Lee

Good pointers, Lee. (We seem to be on the same wavelength with advice today.)
Words like "dynamic"...."discovered"...."rejuvinated"..."repl enished"
(not necessarily THOSE words, just those types of exciting, energy driven words) will give your resume some oomph, too.

A cover letter and a one page resume is the norm for HR firms unless a CV is submitted two pages.

Seems like the poster, is right out of college or still attending since no date is mentioned. Also, no objective is given. GPA should not be mentioned unless it is over 3.5. He/she should state where he saved or made the company money. References available is a waste, because it is a given.

Otherwise, you added lots of bs that is good.

I agree. Employers don't want to have to read a book to get to the qualifications. 1 cover and 1 (MAX 2) page resume is all that's needed.

I'd also use point form alot more in the experience section....Short, sweet and to the point is best.

Thoughts:

Web Developer AND MARKETER - October, 2003 ? August 2004

* where is the company name? it should be at the top. Also, the description you've put is more than just web development, it's also web marketing.

- My main role whilst employed by [nsert company name here] was to develop, initiate and, oversee the implementation of several aspects of a large ecommerce orientated business.

* this is all fluff and basically says you are a web developer...get rid of it. You explain your job in more detail below.

- I gained hands on experience in a wide reach of ecommerce related applications, programming languages and software packages to a level of understanding that allowed me to complete assigned tasks within the alloted time frames.

* What applications, programs and software? Be specific. Get rid of the 'complete assigned tasks within the alloted time frame' part.

- I implemented marketing campaign for the ecommerce sites through utilizing my knowlege of the search engine SERPs and a variety of cross marketing techniques, including, but not limited to, affiliate aquisitions, highly targeted advertising campaigns and a mixture of other protocols in order to drive vistors to the companies online commerce properties which resulted in constant increases in revenue for the company over a sustained period of time.

* be more point blank here. Instead of a huge paragraph, give your marketing strategies in point form...

ie:
* development of an ecommerce based website using html, CGI, Java, CSS, mySQL yadda yadda
* search engine optimization
* creating and maintaining affiliate program
* recruiting affiliates
* email marketing
*etc

Point form is where it's at as far as resumes are concerned. When I hire, I don't want to read paragraph upon paragraph in order to figure out your skills. Tell me with short and sweet points.

Education should be BELOW Experience, not above. And, yes, definitely include an Objective at the top.

Do a search on google for 'resume templates' and you'll find a bunch that cater to today's employer desires.

Good luck.

Getting no feedback? Well... the advice we got, was to call them and ask how things went. That shows that you are interested, and got some guts and it also shows that you really want the job. Perhaps the guy that are supposed to hire people, just are really buzy with other stuff...

Pick up the phone mate...
