Hi,
My 21 month old was diagnosed with an ear infection Friday..Now through all my 9 kids I have NEVER had one of them react this way.
One big concern is she is barely nursing..it really seems to hurt her-even tried a bottle-no go.
She is VERY VERY CRANKY and has a hard time sleeping. And she isnt eating much solids at all. Today I discovered what looks like blisters on her tongue. I was thinking fever blisters but, her temperature really isnt much anymore. Giving her childrens tylenol to help with pain etc. Yes, I will be calling the dr. tomorrow if she isnt any better or today if she gets any worse. In the meantime - any ideas or suggestions from the parents here?

Well the sucking action will make the ear hurt.

Maybe you could make the nipple hole slightly larger (the one that goes on the bottle for God's sake, lol). But be careful not to make it too large (choking hazard).

Ear problems can be hell... I popped a hole in my eardrum while diving and I thought I was gonna lose my mind.

Yes, nipple holes should be bigger. My kids love their bottles far more than they love me. And if you dont keep a close eye on the holes in the nipple, their heads could explode.

What causes the infection comes from having a common cold first.
The infants get colds easily b/c the are constantly putting their
hands in their mouth. Bacteria on the hands gets into the mouth
and develops into a common cold from there.

With a small child all the passages are much smaller (nasal, vessels,
air passages, ear canal). Mucus and saliva make their way into the
ear and infections are quite common among infants b/c of these
smaller passages the fluid pretty much saturates the passages for
long periods of time cause infants don't know how to blow their noses.

There is a product called Auralgam (Auralgan?). You ask the
Pharmacist for it and it's about $6.00 for a small dropper bottle.
I swear...two to three drops in each ear (usually only one ear is
red [infected]) and the infection is just about gone in 20 minutes.

The child shows immediate improvement after the 15-20 minutes.
They stop crying and continue on with a normal happy runny nose
type of cold.

Get it. It really works.

I can never remember the name or the spelling exactly but mention
Auralgan/m to the Pharmacist and they'll know what you're talking
about. Say its "drops for the ears".

Sorry for the small novel but it's a big explanation.

I know the ear infection pain, both my kids had them bad when they were babies, and antiboitics would clear it up and then it come back worse! My daughter had one so bad the side of her face swelled up like a balloon.

This may sound weird, but it works and it works for getting rid of the infection and the pain. Get a gel capsule of garlic oil, rub it between your hands about a min to warm it up, put one drop in the ear and then rub some behind the ear and down the neck. Instantly the pain will be gone. You might need to do it 2-3 times in one day but the infection will be gone within a day.

I even tried it on myself, believe me it works.

I knew it did with the kids too, instantly they would stop crying. Just stink like garlic for a day lol.

My son was really sick with a toxin when he was 5 and went to an enviromental doctor. He was the one that told me this because my daughter was going to another doctor that was giving her one weekend for the face swelling to go down or they were going to do surgury to clean out her ear, ick! I did it and the swelling went down that same day and the infection was gone that monday.

I think I'm saying kind of what Wilber said, but we have one kid who was ALWAYS getting ear infections. Went to the doctor for years and kept gettng ear drops.

One time we were out of state and went to the emergancy room and that doctor explained that it was sinus congestion that causes fluids to build there and cause this.

He told us to give him cold & sinus medicine. It has worked ever since.

When this season starts, every single night before mine go to bed I give them 1/2 a teaspoon of Benedryl and a Vitamin with lots of Vitamin C in it......... obviously you can't do this with a baby so small, but as she gets older you may wanna keep this in mind, it will prevent ALOT of ear problems with her. My Pediatrician told me about this when my oldest was very young and I have been doing it since then. She is now nearly 18. LOL

All of mine have had an emormous amount of trouble with earaches and such, asthma, you name it...... but doing this has fought off alot of that.

I used to use Sweet Oil in Jessie's ears, a couple of drops will work and it does similar to the Product that Wilbur is telling you about, it can be bought at Wal-Mart over the counter.

Beofore I did anything though, I wouldn't even wait to take her to the Dr, I am a paranoid Mom and would be in the ER to get her some relief......... but that is a Tam thing. LOL

damn. i wished i had known about that garlic/sweet oil thing when my kid had her zillions of ear infections. what i forced my kid's doctor to do was put her on a low grade anti-biotic for two months. she never had another ear infection after that.

i was told little ones get them because that coily thing in the ear isn't fully developed.

sounds like thrush to me (the blisters in mouth), ear infections can easily be gotten from letting baby lay with bottle, rather than holding and feeding. They milk (pardon the pun) it and do not actually swallow the milk immediately, so instead on finishing in 5 minutes, take an hour, however, the thrush could be the cause.

The remedy is a prescription I can not recall name of (youngest is 17, give me a break), but think it is amoxicillian (sp) but is pink liquid, remember that for sure.
