				Using a computer as a router/firewall?

I have had this PIII or maybe its a PII (the one thas the size of a pack of cards) with a 10 gig drive and 96mb ram. Its been just sitting there. and I want to use it as a firewall/router.

I have cable internet, and 3 other computers sharing the connectong through a Dlink router/hub right now. I only need/want it for my computer only. So I was thinking, out from the modem into the Dlink, out to this new box, and out a second lan card to my computer. Would this work? and what OS/software is going to be best for this? I can get around in unix to some extent, but am far from pro. |

If you only want it firewalling your PC - then yes, go from the Dlink to it, then a second NIC to your PC. Any OS will do it really - Windows or Unix

Win NT or W2K are fairly good. Linux would be the best depending upon how it's configured.

Are you planning on running it as a normal PC or will you turn it in to a server?
