Now, where the hell did the 468 come from?

Seems somewhat arbitrary to me.

I think it has something to do with the old days when people were still on 640x480 resolution on a 14" or smaller.

fair enough. but then... why not 470x60? 460x60? A rounded number to the next factor of 10.

One of the first banner advertising started out with a 400 x 40 banner. wow never knew... im all for 468x60 theyre big enough to show the girl and some nice text, 120x60 is cool for cashprograms, texts imho

personally I prefer text links over anything else, but 468x80 banners seem to have a good proportion
