So my gramma just died an hour ago...
No not a pity post. I never knew her.
yeah, I never knew her even though she lived 5 to 10 mins away from me my whole life. I never knew any of my grandparents on both my mom and dad's side. they just weren't very sociable people. can anyone else relate? it would have been cool to know them - 2 of them are still alive (my granpa on my mom's side and my gramma on my dad's side). my grandpa was in WWII so i'm sure he has some interesting stories, but I know he's mean as shit. |

That is unfortunate as you can learn a lot about life from the wisdom of your grandparents.
You should try to patch things up or whatever with the ones that are still around, no matter what your parents feelings on the subject are. |

Grandparents usually come in two types. Those that really get involved with the kids and those that keep to themselves and don't want to be bothered.
I never got to know my grandfather on my father's side at all. He died before I was born. What's crazy is my mother was his nurse in the hospital and that's how she met my father. My grandmother on my dads side we saw every single Sunday. My grandparents on my mother's side we only saw about 4 times a year since they lived way upstate Pennsylvania and it was a haul to go visit them.

I'm very close to my grandmother. I take care of her actually. Anything she needs, bills, household items, anything.. I get.
I do all of this because she raised me. |

Sorry to hear that man.
I've never really met my grandparants either. My dads parents lived in Syria and I was able to visit once before they passed away, my moms dad died before I was born. I have one grand parent left in California who I see every few years but we're not really close. |

Yeah I can relate, one grandpa died when I was 10, remember him from pictures. My other grandpa lived in other states my whole life and died at 14. My grandma lives in another state, I have seen her 2 times in the last 15-20 years. I speak to her on the phone maybe 1 time every 18 months or more. My other grandma I say hi to maybe 1 time per year maybe at a christmas holiday get together.
Close with my immediate family not so much the others. Sorry to hear that, hope you are ok. |
