I'm Seriously Liking Kabbalah

I love learning what different religions think. Last summer I read up a lot on Buddhism. I recently started studying Kabbalah (which really isn't a 'religion'). I love some of the things Kabbalah teaches. I've been listening to a CD series called "The Power of Kabbalah".

Some of the things they teach are pure shit (I astrology hate because I think it's complete BULLSHIT and it seems they put some emphasis on it), but a lot of what they teach is really interesting.

Anyone else ever look into Kabbalah?

Hey man,

This is good to hear. We can talk about this stuff sometime. I just like learning, particularly about the religious beliefs of others. I purchased a lot of materials about Kabbalah (even the complete Zohar) so maybe I can share some of them with you if you want.

My girl's aunt just called and wants us to come over so I'm leaving now, but I'll check back later.

PS - I have a check going out to you this week. Thought you might like to know that.

Im not really into religion or something. I mean not that i have any religion. I went to church when i whas younger, but i never felt comfortable there.
Form its more what you feel in your heart, and what you do. You dont need a religion for that.

I think every religion has his good and his bad things. But most important is, to respect eachother (ok maybe except oracle porn).

kabbalah, Boedhism, islam, catholic.. all have his good and bad things... but if you get all the good things out oif each and respect other people that will do it.

Im fascinated with all occult stuf to, but not with the goal to find answers...

I like to learn from many sources, too, because I like to take the good from each and throw out the bad. My ex-father-in-law used to say, "Eat the meat and spit out the bones", which translates to "Take what you want from everything and get rid of the parts you don't like".

That's why I am constantly reading about what others believe.

Kabbalah is interesting, but very complex, possibly one of the most mixed up of all modern mysticisms because of the dark history of religion in europe. (lot's of religious persecutions in europe, arguably more so than in most other parts of the world.)

You have dozens of strains of "jewish" kabbalah, and dozens to hundreds of strains of non-jewish kabbalah. All the whacked out christian mystics of europe gobbled up kabbalah as a 'secret teaching', stripped out some of the purely jewish religious trtaditions, and turning it into a hybrid of mystical imagery and meditations.

So, lots of books you might find on kabbalah are very different from what the modern jewish tradition thinks of as kabbalah.

And the stuff that madonna is into- well, that's an example of one of the many strains of the jewish tradition, with it's own particular flavor. And most of the traditional Rabbis think of that as a dangerous subcult, a personality cult.

A person can find truths spoken by the sane, the insane, and (if you believe the Bible) even by donkeys.

The point? Who cares if it's trendy, mystical, weird, etc... if you find a few nuggets here and there that you can use then it was worth studying.

I'm studying it now. There are things I like and things I don't.

I love people that hate Astrology that don't know anything about the science behind it.

Why don't you research it thoroughly before you judge it so swiftly.

Oh, I will. I'm sure I'll listen to their reasons. My initial reaction to astrology is that I think it is complete bullshit. If you are born on the same day that I am, will you and I have similar lives? I seriously doubt it.

The "science" behind astrology: give a class full of students the exact same professionally made horoscope, and 80% will say "Wow, the damn thing is right!".

These sites are called SEARCH ENGINES.

Yeah, I dont really want an introduction to kabbalah. I just want the main points recapped.

Christianity: They beleive Jesus is the son of god, they follow the ways of the bible, it's derived from the original religion of Jeudism.

Islam: They beleive christianity was lost in the interpretation of of the bible, that there is only one god, and no other (jesus christ is a prophet) and that Mohammed is the last prophet of god and god spoke directly to him to weed out any possible misunderstandings.

Kabbalah: =?

If im being too lazy feel free to flame. I just dont want to read some propaganda of how it will answer all the questions about life. etc. I just want to know the main beliefs if possible.

I know I could read a bunch of articles and books and have a much understanding of it. But my point is that it seems like several people have already done that, so why not just ask what they took from all of what they read. lazy, yes. ignorant, I dont think so.

Doing a search also involves filtering information, and possibly having to compare the content of several sites. When you're looking for some quick info, that can - and most often will - take longer than typing out a post.

3. word up

A greeting thats very close to my heart. Once used mainly by the afro american socity it is now used mainly by wiggas or as a joke.

Tell me whats the word? Word up!

The part in bold applies in this situation.

Kabbalah has got so many variations there is no simple answer to the 'what is kabbalah' question.

To one group it's reading secret encoded messages out of the torah and the bible with pretty whacked out letter codes.

To another it's a nearly-scientific-looking meditation system for perfecting yourself and acheiving union with god.

The type of stuff popular nowadays is this magic-religion hybrid, prayers and charms, meditations on images of god and angels to help a person climb the tree of life and evolve spiritually.

Your basic mystical stuff. Supposedly the "secret teachings" behind the whole judeo-christian religion.
