Wow you gotta figure that the daily limit isn't that high so that guy had to be making a lot of trips to the atm...

in theory if you had someones card and pin number you could hit multiple atms in one large city rapidly before the transactions were sent to the main database but still the daily limits on atms are like 200-500 dollars so either had multiple accounts or was one busy mother fucker

he didn't take it out of one atm, it was from several..

No ATM would hold $6M worth of cash, that'd be 300,000 $20 bills. Assuming a bill is 1/32 of an inch in thickness, the stack would be 781 feet tall. Assuming the bill is only 1/64 of an inch, it's still 390 feet tall.

The ATMs that I've seen here in Australia are loaded by inserting 'magazines' - metal boxes that are probably one note long by two notes wide perhaps 15 inches tall.

All the ATMs I've seen only dispense $20 and $50 notes

Since when does one ATM hold that much cash to begin with?

In the early 80's in Australia, if you took money out of an ATM after hours or on the weekend the bank wouldn't know about it until the next business day.

So in my broke student days with $200 in my account on a Friday night I could go to five different ATMs and take out a total of $1000. Only did it once and got a nasty letter from the bank on Monday asking me to put the money back in but no overdrawn fees

I wonder how he pulled that off. Cards almost always have a limit and each ATM probably does too per card.

How much money do they keep in each ATM?

Exactly what I was thinking. I guess I can call them all idiots and they will never know because they don't read the thread anyway.

There are two ways he could have done it:

He was working on the inside at BEA

or

He had someone on the inside.

and most likely he's not dead, just found another corpse to take his place. He's still got $1.5M left after the $4M+ was recovered and that buys a new life.

right now, they are probably planning their next heist.
