I know Santa Claus is real, but the Santa Clause is just a legal catchall used by Coca Cola

Santa Claus is completely different in America.

I first heard this story from Fabian - and I am sure I am getting it wrong - but in Holland, Sinterklaas is a guy that used to come around and put all the black kids into his sack and take them to Spain.

I didn't believe it - then it was verified, and then - get this - I saw a Sinterklaas on a canal boat in Amsterdam with a bunch of guys wearing black facepaint.

I then met a doorguy at a bar dressed as Sinterklaas - and he laughed about being the black Sinterklaas.

I still don't get it. But it seems funny.

yer nuts - Christmas is an awesome holiday and I don't believe in any religion. I don't care if it's all a media created and hyped event - people do get into the Christmas spirit around now, they think about being nice and it does bring families together - even if they usually turn into dysfunctional family circuses. For families with kids it's a special time - more than just waiting for the toys.

The real Christmas spirt exists in small towns/cities - if you're from LA and have never lived in a small town/city you wouldn't understand.

The only thing that I dont like about this time of year, iss the number of people that have to have it alone. they get depressed, and that is a bad thing.

there is a reason that they call it silly season.

This is one reason back when I was in the Military (I was married), I would invite as many single Joes over for dinner and a little something for them to open. I have continued this tradtion for years after getting out. Christmas to me is about the kids, bringning together family and good will towards your fellow man.

Coke invented the modern Santa Clause, yes. However, he was around long before Coca Cola. Before that he was Father Christmas and before that he was Lough of the Long Arm, brother of Cernunnos, or Herne the Hunter and the Hunted.

Lots of families in the service do this. I did it with my girlfriend at the time. It worked well mostly because we had off base housing and thus were able to get away with almost anything. For example, I think underage drinking is a stupid crime, so I allowed it inside my home. Anyone who was underage and consumed was compelled to stay the night, which was made known before they drank their first drop. Amazingly, we didn't have any behavioral problems out of anyone. Imagine that!

X-mas was huge for me when I was little, but now that I am married to the anti X-mas....it really sucks....

I think when kids come into the picture x-mas is nicer....I still get happy to see houses decorated, and to buy my family presents, and even sing along to cheesy x-mas songs!

A few people really nailed it on the head. Christmas, for whatever reason, is really fun when kids are around. When kids aren't around, Christmas seems to be boring and even a drag.

I can't believe people reading this thread are nodding their heads in agreement about coca cola creating the modern day santa clause. Did you people even read the information on the webpage? How about the part where it says it's false right at the very top? It's actually an interesting read. You people are idiots.

I didnt read the article, but the modern image of Santa was created by some Swedish artist called Sondblum or Sondheim (or something like that) for Coca Cola.
