I'm still a fan of C++ CGI applications, however, PHP has it's place and is making tremendous leaps and bounds

C++ is infinitely faster. PHP still has a lot of catching up to do before it's equal to C, C++ or Perl but it's made some amazing strides in the last few years.

Nope, it's really easy. Just add a content type to the header and use cgicc http://www.gnu.org/software/cgicc/cgicc.html and you're in business.

C++ is faster, smaller, easier (IMHO), and has many other points.

It depends, any compiled language is naturally gonna be a bit more effeciant then something that's interpretted, it's all about choosing the right tool for the job.
