Treo 650

Has anyone purchased a Treo 650 yet? If not you might want to it a try because it is a very nice device. The Audiovox PPC 6601 is too but it doesn't run a Palm OS

Almost everything that people disliked about the 600 has been corrected on the 650.

I have both. My Treo runs circles around the Blackberry. It's the touch screen that kills it. If the Blackberry had a touch screen and a few other things it could compete. The push emailing on the Blackberry is cool but I have most of my messaging coming through the sms so I'm instant enough.

Plus, I absofuckinglutely hate the walkie talkie feature in the Blackberry. What the fuck are we doing, playing grown up GI Joe? If you want to talk to me just fucking call me. It's the same device what's the problem? Why do grown people want to talk into a phone so the whole world hears the conversation? Maybe if I were in a trucking type business or maybe some other construction type of field it would make sense, but we aren't so what's the point?

I would like to get a 650 though. The bluetooth and the screen is all I want that's different.

Treo is the sheeet!

Nextel has the Motorola I930 coming out. Its might take a couple of months though. But the Treo looks good.

Nextel also released the RIM 7520 with Bluetooth. I have the 7510 now and can't ever be without it. My partner has the Treo 600 and he feels the same way about it.

Oh shit. This is the first time I've seen it. Ok, now this might replace my Treo.

True you do need BES to be able to browse with RIM provided software. BES is extra. BUT you can download a 3rd party browser that will let you do so without BES. I have WebViewer installed on my 7510 and I was browsing GFY while waiting for an appointment in full HTML and Java Script.

The reason I find myself holding on to my Blackberry is because the push E-mail. There is nothing like recieving E-Mail instantly to your phone and being able to respond instantly. If the Treo came with push E-Mail I'd jump ship in a second.

You really like it?

I (being a phone geek), love the 600, and figured the 650 would be even better... But I've seen some *really* nasty reviews about it.

I can't find the link now, but I saw a few articles saying that the 650 had fucked up by implementing a new filesystem that basically whacked your memory so bad that you wound up having less usable memory than the 600. (they made the minimum block size 5k or something)

Some other bug too, but it might have just been phone nerds bitching

mmm... the whole memory issue is already a moot point, as Palm1 is giving away a 128mb SD card w/ each 650 now, so no issue of low memory really for the power users... of course, i think a 1GB SD card would be more appropriate, but i'm waiting for the GSM version of the 650 anyways..

Versamail solves that problem for you with the email.

One of the main things that I have heard people complaining about is the fact that they lose 1mb. The 600 has 24 megs and the 650 has 23 but that is because its a different memory type. In the new Treo you are less likely to lose your data if your battery goes down and you can't perform a hotsync for awhile (I forgot the time period).

There are also a lot of 3rd party apps that are causing all types of headaches because they aren't built for the 650 but overall i'm impressed by the 650.

Handspring/Palmone did a very good job of keeping what worked and fixing what didn't.

The Audiovox and the Treo can both support up to a 2gig SD card and there is a 3rd party program out there that will play divx/mpeg movies. Audiovox comes with Media Player and Treo comes with Real Player. Screw having an ipod when you can have a device that plays mp3s for you.

When I went through training on the Audiovox the guy showed me Shrek 2 and it looked amazing. Plus he was even able to turn the landscape mode on and have "wide screen" on his pda.

Also both the pda can be used as wireless modems. Sprint doesn't support it but I know for a fact that it is possible.

The only thing that I don't like about both the devices is the fact that they aren't EV-DO compliant.

I might be getting one here @ a discounted rate if Sprint decides to give us one.

P.S. Pornwolf you should try the Ready Link service by Sprint. You don't have to have the entire world listening to your call. You can turn the speaker mode off and just use it like a normal phone. I have it and I love it. No dropped calls, crystal clear clarity and when I get one of those awkward pauses I just don't respond.
