Oh, the irony...

Thought I would post an update. Here's an excerpt of the "stock" response provided by Casalemedia, a major advertiser on 12Clicks Standard Internet, when questioned about adware:

"Let me assure you that Casale Media does not engage in putting AD-Ware on anyone's machines however, we do buy advertising space for clients from companies which use this ad delivery format".

And here's the real irony, in their explanation of where the adware type pop-ups could be originating:

"If you are getting multiple advertisements, you probably have several pieces of adware on your computer. This could occur by downloading applications such as Kazaa, Morpheus, Hotbar, Smiley Central, iMesh, and many others".

Now, why is this significant you ask? Another major product delivered by Standard Internet is Free Screensavers, offered by Funwebproducts. Take a close look at their Privacy Policy, and not only will you find the Smiley Central product cited by Casalemedia as a MAJOR source of adware, you will find an extensive list of other goodies..all which have been connected to adware by McAfee, Norton, and dozens of other reputable Security companies.

Here's a small list of products included with the Freescreensaver download. I left out a whole bunch, in order to make this post readable.

Im not finished investigating this , but from what i can tell 12clicks is a broker who deals in this type of traffic. Perhaps he needs to investigate his own affiliates/partners more carefully. When webmasters are getting ripped off, theres a lot bigger things to worry about than the law.

well son, looks like you can't tell very much.
Our ads come from reputable companies not script kiddies using a porn affiliate code to scam signups. (you gotta get out of adult. I don't know of ANY mainstream advertisers who would waste their traffic trying to get signups to a porn site):1orglaugh

I know where your ads come from , and i could care less about reputable companies.

My main business is not adult.

"Son" may be the wrong term to use as i'm many years your elder..

As i said i haven't finished looking into this. I'm not bashing you, just looking out for OUR best interests.

You say you dont know any mainstream advertisers who waste there time with porn ? well what about dating sites ??

My initial post was only to inform others that if you or anyone else rips off me or any of my associates , your anal cavities will become open season for my daytons to do some interior decorating. PERIOD.

No, your initial post was to explain how you were "investigating" me.

what this asshat accused me of is illegal. I've made far too much money in this biz to risk it trying to make an adult signup here and their. (or a dating signup here or there)
The mental leaps some people make are very telling about their position in this biz.
someone could come to me with a deal for 100 signups a day using spyware and I'd laugh in their face.
spyware is illegal and 100signups a day is chump change. but you keep investigating.:1orglaugh

i agree. scam artists often try word games to justify theft, but in the end theft is theft and theives deserve what's comming to them.

12clicks runs a company called Standard Internet. And you've all seen me talk about them before. Well, here we go again.

Last night, a friend called me up and complained that everytime he uses the internet, his surfing is constantly interrupted by pop-up after pop-up. So, I offered to come over and help him remove the pesky adware from his computer.

Well, upon inspection, I found out that he had recently downloaded a "FREE" screensaver offered to him on a adpage. This screensaver (offered up by Standard Internet's popuptraffic service) comes complete with "ad-supported" software.

This "ad-supported" software then serves up ad after ad ....depending on what you enter in the browser address bar, and by what you search for...and simply by launching the browser.

Now, here's where it effects all of you. While I was there, and before I removed the offending piece of scumware from his system, I went to one of my own Adult Friend Finder ad pages. Well, lo and behold, what also launches?...a pop-up for Alt.com & passion.com...with someone else's affiliate codes in them. So, they go to my ad page...they are served up someone else's ads..and they get the commission.

Now, I can GUARANTEE that Ron will come to this post, and try to derail my claims by stating all sorts of unrelated comments..such as...go back to flipping burgers... call the FTC...etc.

But, the simple fact is, 12Clicks and his company are costing YOU money. So, I'm not going to respond to any of his comments. Instead, if you decide to post in this thread...I ask that you always add my text above as a quote, so that everyone that comes to this thread can see the original intent...and see that 12Clicks is STEALING your money.

And, no Ron, it doesn't matter that you are simply an "ad-broker". The fact is, 99% of the ads served up by your popuptraffic program are ad-supported scumware.

And, anyone that wants to see for themselves, feel free to put this little bit of code on a html page.

<SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript" src="http://www.popuptraffic.com/assign.php?l=traffic"></script>
This comes straight from Standard Internet's popuptraffic affiliate page. This will launch the ads served by Standard Internet. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that no matter what 12Clicks/Ron says...his program is the number 1 provider of scumware on the net.

P.S. Don't download his spywareremover programs offered in the adpages. At least one of them is a known trojan...which goes on to install it's own little ad-supported software.

Before you post..please think! Do you really want to stand up for this piece of scum, while his programs are effectively STEALING the money right out of your pockets.

I already did find all we need to know. Read the post..read the evidence...

Like I've said before, me coming in here and making blanket statements without fact would be pointless. That is why I have provided the links for anyone to test for themselves and then gone the next step with my correspondance to casalemedia and further investigation....

And, like I also said before...
Call it what you want....
You are right..the legality changes immensely whether it is adware or spyware....in fact, all throughout this post I have stayed with your term of "ad-supported" software.
But none of this changes in the least the facts that I have stated above....

Sleazydream said it best:

What amazes me is how people feel it their right to criticize how another man makes a living. I have more respect for someone holding a shotgun to a clerk's head than I do for someone who sits on their ass collecting welfare. In either situation I have no room to judge, as it is none of my business.

We are on a porn BBS, most of us here sell porn, and have done other things in our lives to turn a dollar. Some would call us the complete shit bags of the earth.

It is all perspective, my friends, and other people's business.

no, sorry kiddie. you won't find any spyware. A good liar (which you are by the replies from the trolls here) mixes truth with lies to confuse ther stupid (as exampled by said trolls)
adware is not illegal, won't be illegal, and is used by hundreds of ad companies. In exchange for free software, the user agrees to view ads in lieu of payment. We show an ad, a surfer either agrees to download the software or he doesn't.
49thparallel would have you believe that spyware and adware are the same even after the ftc told him they aren't and to stop calling them about it.

true.
:1orglaugh
Adware/spyware ... whatever. There is a legitimate market, but do you honestly think most surfers AGREE to view constant ads on their computer in exchange for the free software? You must be delusional,

Almost every webmaster i've met promoting adware/spyware is always looking for a new way to auto install or a way to fuck over the surfer.

Invading people's PC's with adware or spyware is immoral, and it gives a bad name to the entire industry.

Are you on crack? Wait until it's your business, and you have a shotgun pointed at your head. Maybe no one will have room to judge then either. Maybe we should just sit back while CP fucks take over the industry? Or start promoting trojan horses?.... get a clue.

No changes evident in the Standard Internet / 12Clicks "ad supported" software issue, so looks like it is time to resurrect this thread.

And I can guarantee an "all fluff, no substance" reply from Ron will be forthcoming. Like I've said before Ron...turn off your "Oh my god, someone posted my name in a thread" detector and get out of the house.

Going on the old "There's no such thing as bad publicity" adage, are we? Ron, this thread offers not just claims, but the ways and means for anyone to examine and prove the claims made against your company.

You continue to miss one important point. As a person, your actions mean nothing. As a company, we're talking a whole different ball game. I have but one agenda...to help make it harder for companies like yours to continue to erode the online advertising industry.

Ron, keep the personal attacks coming. You will fool a few...but the more astute and intelligent of the crowd will recognize the attacks for what they are..and then move on to examine the real issues that are addressed in this thread.

Thanks for keeping this thread active!
