Question in regards to Biotech

I guess I am a clueless GFYer when it comes to business.

How are Biotech companies making so much money without selling any products right now? Is the government (or private groups) paying them for research?

Thx.

XBiz and Biotech, similarities?

Here the answer straight from my wife ( lawyer/microbiolgist ) who does FDA compliance and regulatory affiars for an industry leader.

During a republican administration bio-products are approved much easier through the FDA for both new and revised product submissions. Companies can bring more porducts to market faster and with much less overhead, thus making it much easier to be profitable and sustain growth.

I thank your wife.

But I thought many biotech companies aren't selling a single product, yet reporting massive revenues.

They got patents on streaming videos ... they want a revenue from anybody using thoses patents .

I'm pretty sure bio works that way too ... just way more structured

Inverstors are paying for Potential. It's a gamble but it is all tied into the product field the company is doing research in.
It CAN pay off. For example: Genentech was a gamble for a long time until they came up with their anti-blood clot drug.

Same with Gilead Sciences' retroviral portfolio (VIREAD).

You just have to pick the right ones and ride out the cycles.
